Fellow AQ members,

Things in Milwaukee have not changed one iota since Rembert Weakland left!!

I want to write a letter to Archbishop Dolan about the non Catholic activities being forced upon the Catholic youth in this once fine city...your help and ideas are greatly appreciated.

January 13, 2006: Liturgy of the Hours

St. Francis of Assisi, 1927 N 4th St., Milwaukee

Liturgy of the Hours is prayed communally in formal Church gatherings, in informal groups of the faithful and even in families, but which may also be prayed by individuals who are not able to pray it in common. Whether prayed communally or by individuals, the Liturgy of the Hours is always the liturgical prayer of the Church: the prayer of Christ the priest and of the Body of Christ, the Church throughout the world and the Communion of Saints in heaven.

We will meet at the Church located on the corner of 4th and Brown in Milwaukee.

February 10, 2006: Taize Prayer

St. Joseph, 12130 W. Center St., Wauwatosa

Taizé, in the south of Burgundy, France, is the home of an international, ecumenical community, founded there in 1940 by Brother Roger. The brothers are committed for their whole life to material and spiritual sharing, to celibacy, and to a great simplicity of life. Today, the community is made up of over a hundred brothers, Catholics and from various Protestant backgrounds, from more than twenty-five nations. At the heart of daily life in Taizé are three times of prayer together. The brothers live by their own work. They do not accept gifts or donations for themselves. Some of the brothers are living in small groups – “fraternities” - among the very poor. Since the late 1950s, many thousands of young adults from many countries have found their way to Taizé to take part in weekly meetings of prayer and reflection. In addition, Taizé brothers make visits and lead meetings, large and small, in Africa, North and South America, Asia, and in Europe, as part of a “pilgrimage of trust on earth”.

Come early and join us for the parish fish fry. Look for the iPray group! iPray will meet in the church at 7:00 pm.

March 10, 2006: Stations of the Cross

St. Anthony on the Lake, W280 N2101 Hwy. SS, Pewaukee

For Roman Catholics throughout the world, the Stations of the Cross are synonymous with Lent, Holy Week and, especially, Good Friday. This devotion is also known as the "Way of the Cross", the "Via Crucis", and the "Via Dolorosa." It commemorates 14 key events on day of Christ's crucifixion. The majority concern His final walk through the streets of Jerusalem, carrying the Cross. Join the Milwaukee TEC Community as they lead us through this reflection of the final steps of Christ.

I am absolutely appalled at the so-called ecumenical movement, especially this Taize thing. With that "Brother" Roger receiving communion at the JPII funeral (or maybe B16's installation) and not being roundly condemned by anyone, just floors me.

People, we are CATHOLIC. Why are we dabbling with other religions? Why are we "engaging in dialogue" instead of preaching the Gospel and converting people. Confirming another soul in his errors is seriously sinful and definitely not the result of charity.

Is it any wonder that the practicing Catholic population is declining when our leaders loudly and incorrectly proclaim that one needn't be Catholic to be saved; don't try to convert the Jews, who have their own separate covenant; let's pray with witch doctors and animists for some nebulous goal of world peace, and so on.

Please, Mary, Mother of the Church, save your people.

What really shocks me about the post-conciliar church is how blurry the lines are now between Catholic and Protestant, Catholic and eastern religion, Catholic and new age 'religion'. I guess that this is all in the name of ecumenism, but the abuses resulting are terrible and grievous.

In our former N.O. parish, for example, our RCIA instructor brought in a priest who led catechumens through a new-age guided meditation (in the pews of the Church itself), and in the follow-up, the participants hinted at having psychic visions of their own futures during the session, all with the priest's approval. The same parish was refused permission for a Latin mass by the archibishop, but he allows 'charismatic' 'masses'. The nearby university's Newman center brought in staff from a 'dominican ashram' (http://www.op.org/ashram/community.htm that mixed eastern religion and Catholicism.

It used to be that you knew what to expect when you went to a Catholic church, but now...

No

How can this be? I remember reading all those articles in The Wanderer telling me how conservative Bishop Dolan is and how he will clean up the mess in Milwaukee.

I guess you will just have to be thankful that the Brewers moved the the National League and did away with that dreadful Designated Hitter.

Make no mistake, the labyrinth is pagan new age hokum masquerading as prayer and "meditation on the journey" Catholics should have nothing whatever to do with such distractions from true catholic forms of prayer, adoration and the rosary.
The scandal emerging from the false "ecumenical movement" is single handedly the major reason for the fall off in conversions, in the lack of real evangelization and for the development of the religious indifferentism of most Catholics today ("one religion is as good as another, it doesnt matter what you believe, as long as you try to be good, etc")

tkgs, murph:

See my post above-- I think the whole thing is appalling. And I am not going to say that it will necessarily be fixed. But, consistent with charity I have to point out that the Archbishop may not be aware of this, and if so, it takes some time to ferret out all of the abuses that occurred in a very liberal diocese.

He hasn't been there that long yet; the real question is, will he put a stop to this now that he has (probably) been notified? Maybe not. And then, he is open to correction.

Actually, a stricter translation: I fear Hahn Novus Ordinarians, even when they're bearing donuts.
