Dear Forum,

Does anyone know of a resource for the ceremonial and rubrical instructions for celebration of all the hours of the Divine Office, pre-Bugnini, for the Diocese of Rome?

Thanks,

Welcome to AQ!

Try this....

http://divinumofficium.com/cgi-bin/horas/officium.pl/a

Not sure if it will help with as precise a locale as Rome, but it ought to be a good start.

Thanks for the welcome!

I don't read Latin yet, but am working on it. I am looking for something that is going to tell me, "Process into the choir stalls this way. Now take off your biretta. Now sing this psalm. Put biretta back on. Process out this way." etc...
Does this resource cover those things (I can't read it).

Thanks,

Jordanawef,

If you are in no hurry I am working on a book for the Office in Choir but do not see it being ready before Easter 2010.

Do you read French? If so Le Vavasseur is an excellent source as he describes, in different books, the Office in parish churches, larger churches and pontifical celebrations.

In English Adrian Fortescue's 'Ceremonies of the Roman Rite Described' is an excellent starting point as he covers Vespers, Compline and Mattins and Lauds (for Christmas and Tenebrae). The rules for Prime and the other 'Little Hours' can be worked out from his description of Compline.

If you want something specific please message me.

Rubrician,

Thanks for suggesting these books. Yes I read french enough to get a general idea of what they are talking about.

No I am not in a big hurry to know this stuff. Where can I look for your book to be sold when it comes out?

Thanks,

Jordanawef,

Just click the button below that takes you to my blog.

How wonderful of Tom to find the first edition 'Fortescue' (by far the best) on line. There is a wonderful comment of Fortescue (page 12 of the pdf for the Title page section) that resulted in legal action being taken against him for his criticism of Dale: "Frankly I do not think I have ever read a book written in so atrocious a style..." etc.
