  1. There has been a lot of discussion about a commission directed by laymen to investigate clergy sex abuse. While polygraphs are not 100% reliable, some type of extensive background check must be applied to candidates for bishop and cardinal appointments, as well as priests.

    There is, however, one method of checking on priests’ behavior which should be tried. Blood tests. Every seminarian, priest, bishop, and cardinal should be tested annually for hepatitis, HIV, and other STD strains. Only those who can demonstrate they contracted infections from blood transfusions during surgery should be given the benefit of the doubt. This can go a long way to removing problem priests who are perverts.

    Just the fact that they would have to submit to annual tests for hepatitis, HIV, and STD’s, might put them on notice.
