Bishop Peter Comensoli of Broken Bay, Australia, has criticized the decision of Archbishop Philip Wilson not to resign after his conviction for failing to report sexual abuse. Archbishop Wilson has stepped away from his pastoral role, but said that he will not resign unless an appeal of his conviction is denied. Bishop Comensoli—who will soon be installed as Archbishop of Melbourne—acknowledged Wilson’s right to appeal, but said that his reluctance to resign is “not of benefit for God’s people.”
