Your Catholic Week in Review: $3.3 Billion Edition

Michael Hichborn – 6/8/18

Though I would love to tell you that Lepanto just received a $3.3 billion shot in the arm, I will have to simply settle for the fact that the Catholic Church in the United States gave that money away.

…to defend and pay out for the actions of pederast priests.

The abuse scandal cost American dioceses and religious institutes $642,975,667 between 2014 and 2017, according to Table 6 (page 46) of the newly released report. In the previous decade, the scandal’s total cost was $2,744,881,843. Between mid-2016 and mid-2017, there were 695 new allegations involving 654 alleged victims (over 80% of them male); the majority of new allegations involved incidents that reportedly took place before 1980.

Consider that if the Catholic Church had spent the same amount of money shutting down the 660 still-existing Planned Parenthood facilities across the United States, that would involve $5 million per facility.  Or for the 56 million victims of abortion, this would have been $58.93 each in formula and diapers.  Or a $66 million campaign in each of the 50 U.S. states to preserve and protect the dignity of marriage.

…all wasted on a bunch of homosexual priests abusing physically mature but mentally immature teenagers, because at root, this is precisely the problem no one is talking about.  We don’t have a pedophilia problem; we have a homosexual priest problem.

Now bear in mind, this report was just published — and Lepanto will be taking a much deeper look at what went into this report.

Yet as we take a cursory glance at its contents, the fact that the Major Superiors of Men was such a big part of this report is extremely troubling, and here’s why:

Allowing homosexual priests to measure their impact on the Catholic Church is akin to allowing the Nazis to try themselves at Nuremberg.

The truth be told, the $3.3 billion would have been worth every penny if it were spent saving souls.  Instead, the hierarchy has either been duped or remains complicit in the act of covering up for priests whose crimes came during the tidal wave of homosexual priests in the 1960s and 1970s.

Chalk it up to a case of misplaced priorities.  The lives that could have been saved, the vocations fostered, the parishes and clinics built… all for the sake of protecting a handful of demonically-inspired homosexuals.

Better a millstone be thrown around their necks… and so long as the Church continues to chain themselves to these sodomites, so too will the financial fortunes of the Catholic Church share the fate of the millstone.
