Beware that Latin Mass! The Political Miracle in Italy and Its Link to Catholic Tradition

Fatima Perspectives #1206

In my last column on the political situation in Italy I noted reports of a breakthrough in the creation of a government based on the new populist, anti-EU parliamentary majority resulting from the stunning electoral triumph of both the Five Stars and League parties.

As the New York Times reported on May 31 (with evident deep regret): “After 88 days of impasses and negotiations, two Italian populist parties with a history of antagonism toward the European Union received approval Thursday night to create a government that has already unsettled the Continent’s political order.”

Horrors!  How dare the Italian people “unsettle” the “political order” of the Continent, meaning the artificially imposed EU monolith?  No one must kick against the goad of what I have called the World Oligarchic Complex (WOC).

As the Times woefully explains: “Only days ago, President Sergio Mattarella of Italy rejected a populist government over concerns about a proposed finance minister who had helped write a guide for withdrawing Italy from the euro, Europe’s single currency.” But, the Times frets, “the populists reshuffled, keeping the same prime minister, Giuseppe Conte, and other top players, but moving the objectionable finance minister to a less critical post.”

And now the Conte government is in place, leaving the Italian press and the world media at large to fret and fume over this dangerous insurrection against the supposedly irresistible tide of post-Christian political modernity.  (A myth exploded by the resurgence of Christian populism in both Hungary and Poland, a phenomenon now spreading to the Italian peninsula.)

And dangerous it is.  For it seems Italy’s new government is being led by the WOC’s most dreaded foes, whose political influence was long assumed to be dead and buried forever: not mere Christians of some sort, which would be bad enough from the WOC’s point of view, but actual Catholics.

As Roberto de Mattei observes at Corrispondenza Romanathe Italian press is savaging the new Minister of the Family, Lorenzo Fontana, for “having expressed himself in favor of the natural family, protected by Article 29 of the Constitution, and to have noticed the existence of a demographic crisis in Italy and to have participated in the March for Life of May 19.” Fontana has declared that “we must not be afraid to confront the dictatorship of one thought… We have shoulders broad enough to resist the gratuitous attacks with evidence of the facts, the force of ideas and of concrete actions.”

Fontana — horror of horrors — attends the traditional Latin Mass, liberated from its false imprisonment by Benedict XVI’s Summorum Pontificum. As “Father Z’s” blog notes, the Italian leftist mucky-muck Andrea Grillo, displaying the cunning of the devil, senses that Summorum and that sinister Latin Mass are something the WOC must fear.  His social media feed warns: “One of the conditions of the Fascism of Fontana is Summorum Pontificum. Remember!”  But not only in Italy!  The whole world is threatened by this outburst of Catholic Tradition!  As Grillo frets: “The legitimization that Summorum Pontificum ensures for the political reactionary drift must be reported. Not only in Italy.”

As I have demonstrated in my book on the subject, the whole project of the moderns has been aimed at the total suppression of the influence of the Catholic Church on the body politic.  But the project seems to be threatened by recent developments in Hungary, Poland and now Italy, which was thought to be irretrievably under the WOC’s thumb.

As De Mattei writes of Fontana: “The minister can count on the help of these men of good will, but he can count above all on the help of Heaven, who does not abandon those who are not ashamed of proclaiming themselves Catholic, defend the natural law and fight against the new barbarians for the noblest of ideals which is the restoration of Christian civilization, the only civilization of history worthy of the name.”

And, as the late great Romano Amerio wrote of our situation in his masterwork on the current ecclesial crisis, Iota Unum: “Faith in Providence thus proclaims the possibility that the world might rise and be healed by a metanoia which it cannot initiate but which it is capable of accepting once it is offered.”

The offer of precisely that metanoia — the reconversion of an entire civilization — is the essence of the Message of Fatima and its call for the consecration of Russia.  Meanwhile, until that happens, God will not refrain from assisting those who do His will in public life.

May Our Lady of Fatima deliver Europe and the whole world from the tyranny that has so long suppressed the Social Kingship of Christ over men and nations.

  1. Is this the beginning of the Divine Intervention prayed for by so many traditional Catholics? Could be!

  2. FrankenPope’s Liturgist Says Summorum Pontificum is Fascist

Text: Giuseppe Nardi – Trans: Tancred – 6/7/18

The “Liturgist of the Pope”, Andrea Grillo, “takes shots at the new Italian family minister Lorenzo Fontana: The No-Go-Maximum Fontana: He opposes abortion, mass immigration, gay marriage, gender ideology and attends Mass traditional rite.

(Rome) There is a bitter ideological struggle in the Catholic Church. It has been brought into the Church for decades by the side that has appeared in the past under the coat of arms of modernism and progressism. The most recent evidence was provided by the Italian lay theologian Andrea Grillo with a radical attack on Summorum Pontificum and the new Italian Family Minister.
Grillo teaches liturgical sciences at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant’Anselmo of the Benedictine Order in Rome and is known for his harsh attacks against tradition and everything that stands in the way of actual or supposed “modernization” of the Church. His main enemy for years has been the Motu proprio Summorum Pontificum of Pope Benedict XVI. His repeatedly voiced fears: Bugnini’s liturgical revolution under Paul VI. could be reversed. As a matter of fact, Grillo, who of course knows the actual numbers, tries to crush the delicate plant of tradition. The faster, the better, because: “defend the beginning”.
    Grillo’s attack on Cardinal Sarah

A year ago, Grillo insulted Cardinal Robert Sarah, Prefect of the Roman Congregation for Worship and the Sacraments, as “incompetent and inappropriate.” In such a rage Grillo addressed the epilogue contributed by Benedict XVI. to Cardinal Sarah’s book, “The Power of Silence.” Grille has nothing to fear from his degrading scolding of Cardinal Sarah. It demanded no courage, but was a health dose. He only followed Pope Francis, who has already humiliated the Cardinal publicly several times.

    Andrea Grillo

Grillo is a radical proponent of vernacular languages in the liturgy. Among other things, the “decentralization” of the Missal translations, which Pope Francis granted to individual episcopal conferences, goes back to him. Grillo is eagerly involved in new translations, “which are in direct contradiction to Liturgiam Authenticam’s instruction from 2001,” said Riccardo Cascioli, editor-in-chief of La Nuova Bussola Quotidana.
A harsh wind has been blowing in Rome since the left side of the Church.l now sees its opportunity. Andrea Grillo, neither related nor confused with the comedian Beppe Grillo, whose Five-Star Movement in Italy has just assumed the governmental responsibility, is among those progressives who have radicalized their language under Francis.
Italy’s new family minister as a hope

Andrea Grillo’s most recent enemy image is the family and disability minister of the new Italian government from the Five Star Movement and Lega. For the political left and Brussels, the new government is a red cape, and the leftist Catholics are no exception.
Lorenzo Fontana, born in 1980, is a deputy federal president of the Lega and has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2008 and deputy mayor of Verona since July 2017. Since the parliamentary elections last March, the member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, which voted him Vice-President. He graduated from the University of Padua with a degree in political science and history. The latter he concluded with a work on the Christian civilization.
Fontana is a bearer of hope for a Europe worthy of the name. He is a staunch life-support and a defender of the family and his own identity. His rejection of abortion, mass immigration, “gay marriage”, adoption rights for homosexuals and gender ideology make him a major enemy of their ongoing struggle for cultural hegemony for the political left. She sees this threatened by a profiled opponent, a rarity in the mentally lax bourgeoisie, whose main focus seems to be on economic liberalism.
Family Minister = “Fascist”, Summorum Pontificum = “Fascism”

Of course, the frontal attacks against Fontana that have been launched in recent days are of course applicable to the new government. A look at German media, and what has been written about Fontana over the past 48 hours, is enough to see how campaigns work. Fontana is the red cloth that has been chosen as the main point of attack. The goal: To shoot as fast as possible, a minister from the new government. For now, however, there seems to be little chance of success.
Not only the organized gay lobby and left-wing parties attack Fontana. The liturgist Andrea Grillo also contributes to this politically motivated attack against the new government. Grillo makes it a no less ideologically motivated attack against the church. In his sights he has – not very original – Summorum Pontificum. Minister Lorenzo Fontana visits the Holy Mass in the traditional form of the Roman Rite. For politically motivated progressives in the church a no-go-maximum.
Therefore, the Catholic theologian Grillo tweeted against the Catholic family minister:

“One of the requirements for Fontana’s fascism is Summorum Pontificum. Memento …”

    To then explain:

“The legitimacy that Summorum Pontificum gives to a reactionary drift of politics must be demonstrated. Not just in Italy.”
The Motu proprio Summorum Pontificum of Pope Benedict XVI. is denounced as Fascism by a Catholic theologian, Ordinary at a Pontifical College in Rome. This unknowable audacity portrays vividly which forces are currently seeking supremacy in the church or have already gained the upper hand. Such a view can only lead to statements such as those of Grillo.
Fontana himself responded to the attacks of those days in a letter to the daily Il Tempo:

“The hatred of the elites does not scare me.”
The theologian Andrea Grillo is meant as well. His Twitter posts show how deeply a certain decomposition process was brought into the Church, even if a time-honored monastic order like the Benedictines trained Grillo at their Roman college.
Grillo’s reputation in Santa Marta “extremely worrisome”

The incident shows, above all, who is well-liked in the current pontificate in Santa Marta. Andrea Grillo was called by Pope Francis in 2016 in the ominous Liturgy Commission, which was established by the head of the church behind the back of the competent Cardinal Prefect Robert Sarah.
    / wrote on January 12, 2017:

“The task of this commission is not to correct the degeneration of the post-conciliar liturgical reform of 1969/1970, which is a serious nuisance in the form of liturgical abuse, including in German-speaking countries. The task of this commission is rather the exact opposite, “said Magister. It is meant to demolish one of the last walls of resistance against the abuse of post-conciliar liturgists and would-be liturgists. It refers to the instruction Liturgiam authenticam, which was issued in 2001 and defines the criteria according to which the obligatory Latin liturgical texts are to be translated into the vernacular languages.”
In March 2017, Francisco Fernandez de la Cigoña described Francis’ members of the Liturgy Commission as “altogether alarming”.

  3. I admit the possibility of help from on high as long as it is taken conditionally, that is to say predicated upon already established requirements implicit in Tradition and Catholic history.
In a related context, Fr. Chad Ripperger has stated that God likes a good fight. I take his meaning to pertain to Father’s holy work as an exorcist, an author of renown among traditionalist Catholics, a Thomist and a psychology expert on the role of the supernatural in dealing with clinical phenomena.
Another important context to consider is the 20th Century Portugese experience as a consequence of Fatima, inarguably a manifestation of dramatic improvement within an entire nation led by a Catholic hierarchy and strong central government committed to upholding Catholic social teaching.
Fr. Ripperger’s conferences on YouTube and pp. 405-460 in Frere Michele de la Saints Trinite’s Volume II, “The Whole Truth About Fatima” ( Immaculate Heart Publ., 1986 offer rich detail on each of the contexts noted above.
Thus, the Italian drama which might now be under way, i.e., a real socio-economic and spiritual reform with consequences, down the road, serious enough to force abandonment of the socialist EU regime by patriotic citizens in other European states, is an actual battle and there IS a magnificent precedent for its success, as experienced by Portugal from the 1930s through the 1960s.

  4. Wait a minute! Before everyone goes all teary eyed about this. The government now is a coalition. The Lega is a “center right” party. And the other is a ” center left” party called “5 stars”. “”5 stars” was founded by commedian who thinks that moral issues are not issues, and that they want to fight the corruption in government, so they have no official position on abortion, gay rights, etc. They just want more government aid to the South and “fight the corruption” of the establishment., regardless is its corrupt Berlusconi or corrupt leftists. So they are not predictable. They have no “Catholic” ideology. It all depends on how the wind blows. The “5 stars” only wants “out”. But on top of this, the real right, the “fratelli d’ italia”, ideologically similar to the National Rally if Le Pen, has been excluded
