Without explanation, Los Angeles archdiocese reposts 2013 statement about priestly status of Cardinal Roger Mahony and Bishop Thomas Curry [and AQ Tom posts section of Wikipedia article on Bishop Curry with reference to LA Times on same]

From Archdiocese of Los Angeles website: Statement of Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles: Questions from the faithful and some members of the news media indicate that it would be helpful for me to clarify the status of Cardinal Roger Mahony and Bishop Thomas Curry.

Cardinal Mahony, as Archbishop Emeritus, and Bishop Curry, as Auxiliary Bishop, remain bishops in good standing in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, with full rights to celebrate the Holy Sacraments of the Church and to minister to the faithful without restriction.

From Wikipedia: [Bishop] Thomas John Curry: Resignation from public duties: On 31 January 2013, Curry resigned his post as auxiliary bishop of the Santa Barbara Pastoral Region, in response to the Archdiocese’s release of thousands of pages of files documenting sexual abuse by priests and efforts to cover them up. The files document decisions Curry made in his role as Vicar for Clergy in the years preceding his ordination as auxiliary bishop, which included reportedly interfering with police investigations into abuse claims. (See A sudden fall for a former Mahony vicar: Msgr. Thomas J. Curry chose again and again to conceal priests’ crimes – LA Times, February 03, 2013)
