California Bishops’ spokesman answers question on why they support only ‘progressive Democratic’ proposals’

Ned Dolejsi says there’s a difference between ideological positioning and a theological perspective

[Hat-tip to Canon212: “NORMAL PERSON QUESTIONS CALI BISHOPS SPOX ON
WHY THEY PUSH LEFTIST POLICY INSTEAD OF CHRISTIAN FAITH;
GETS CALLED AN IDEOLOGUE WHO DOESN’T ASK RIGHT”]

Ned Dolejsi

The following is an excerpt from the California Catholic Conference of Bishops:

During the three days of the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, many of our readers stopped by the booth to talk about the Catholic Legislative Network.  Many more joined us online for a series of Facebook Live broadcasts on Saturday.

Kicking off the sessions, which you can now view on our YouTube Channel, was an interview with California Catholic Conference executive director Ned Dolejsi.  Subscribers submitted questions, such as how a faithful person can talk about abortion in an increasingly secularized, anti-religion environment.

Another rather interesting question was the perception that the California Catholic Conference supports only “progressive Democratic” proposals.   Mr. Dolejsi delved into the difference between ideological positioning, which is the nature of politics, compared to the theological perspective of a faith community.

[CalCatholic editor’s note] The question is asked at minute 4:50 in video below; some of the audio is difficult to understand. Dolejsi argued that the question stemmed from an ideological perspective instead a theological perspective, and said the bishops’ work is not rooted in “ideology.” Instead, “we live our faith in the reality…of California”.

  1. Well hell’s bells, “Dr. Spox”! I live in the “reality” of California, 24/7 and there’s tons of “faith” out here – about which any respectable Catholic alive between 33AD and, oh, say 1962 for argument’s sake, wouldn’t even know where to begin in order to list all the wacko and improbable things that are WRONG with it!

Trying to discuss even the most basic, fundamental doctrines with 98 out of 99 Brave New (and, like, totally gnarly) “church” pewsitters is like chatting about physics with a gerbil.

Don’t get me wrong. Californians are some of the truly friendliest, helpful and, like, totally laid back people on Earth. Hands down! No question! You cannot find nicer people outside a Carmelite convent filled with Little Flowers! No joke!
    /
There’s just one little problemo: 97 out of 99 of them wouldn’t know what to do if they ever visited a convent… like, oh say, pray a Rosary or meditate on a truth of the Faith for more than 1.5 seconds, or what a holy water font is for.
    /
However, they DO know a lot about how Francis wants them to separate plastic from paper in recycling bins and a few might even have a tale to share about how 80 billion people from God-alone-knows-where have undermined job opportunities for their 1.2 offspring.
    /
But if you ask them how AL jives with the Sixth Commandment you’re more than likely to be asked, “Is that the one where you’re not supposed to judge anyone?”
    /
Seriously, dude. The collective “religious IQ” out here cannot possibly be much above the average January temperature in Reykjavik. You and your colleagues have your work cut out for you. Peace. Out… dude.
