Polish Bishops Are About to Dump John Paul II For Amoris Laetitia

[Et tu, Polonia Christiana!?]
en.news – 3/16/18

The webpage Polonia Christiana learned that a forthcoming document of the Polish Bishops about Amoris Laetitia will likely dump the teaching of the Church, including the teaching of John Paul II.

Retired Archbishop Henryk Hoser made a revealing statement during a press conference after a recent two-days assembly of the bishops. He claimed that Amoris Laetitia “confirms the teaching of the previous pontificates” but also introduces a “completely new” format into the pastoral work. According to Hoser until now, pastoral work was “based on collective teaching and formation.” In other words: Hoser suggested that from now on Church teaching is one thing, but its implementation a totally different story. Among normal people this is called double moral standards.

Speaking to Polonia Christiana, Hoser pronounced the heresy that the Church has no objective criteria to determine whether adulterers are allowed to receive Communion or not.

Bishop Jan Wątroba of Rzeszów, the chairman of the bishops’ commission for the family, talking to Katolicka Agencja Informacyjna, loaded the burden to decide whether adulterers may receive Communion on the shoulders of the confessors. According to him, “finally it is a confessor who will make a decision”.

But if the priests decide, then the bishops have the duty to defend them when they will be attacked by the media for their decision.

A source close to the Church in Poland commented to the National Catholic Register’s Edward Pentin: “The Polish bishops are leaving behind John Paul II’s legacy and adopting the paradigm shift proposed by Pope Francis and Amoris Laetitia.” [See more at Polish Bishops Leaning Towards Allowing Holy Communion for Remarried Divorcees: Ahead of the publication of pastoral guidelines on Amoris Laetitia, the bishops have voiced support for divorced and remarried Catholics to receive the Eucharist, even if living in a state of objective adultery.]

  1. Abp. Hoser’s suggestion that “Church teaching is one thing, but its implementation a totally different story” reminds me of a quote from Pope J23’s opening address to the first (1962) session of V2:
The substance of the ancient doctrine of the Deposit of Faith is one thing, and the way it is presented is another. And it is the latter that must be taken into great consideration with patience if necessary, everything being measured in the forms and proportions of a Magisterium which is predominantly pastoral in character.
That set forth the hermeneutic of V2, separating the pastoral from the doctrinal nature of the Church, which still haunts us today!

  2. A keen insight, Tom. Kudos! 👍👍👍

  3. The Polish people can be remarkable but it looks like Msgr. Fenton’s comment about tolerant popes appointing more and more stupid men as bishops ever since St. Pius X died has just been vindicated once again. I’m aghast at this news.
