Council of Cardinals discussed Vatican cost controls, role of episcopal conferences, and proposal for regional tribunals to hear abuse cases

[Vatican costs have skyrocketed under FrankenPope with more agencies and commissions in the Curia, synods and conferences at the Vatican as well as expensive outside consultants; devolution of authority to bishops conferences could lead in doctrinal matters to what I have called a new meaning of “cuius regio, eius religio (whose region, his religion; i.e., the religion of the ruler dictates the religion of those ruled)” that what is ok (such as Communion for unrepentant adulterating, fornicating and sodomite couples) in one country (such as Germany) is not in another (such as neighboring Poland); oh, that’s already happening! – AQ moderator Tom]

The prospects for cutting administrative costs at the Vatican, and the role of national bishops’ conferences [which would see them as subjects of specific attributions, including genuine doctrinal authority], were among the topics discussed by the Council of Cardinals in three days of meetings this week.
The Council also heard a proposal for regional tribunals to hear sex-abuse cases [These cases are currently heard by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), which has been swamped, with a backlog of 1,800 cases. Regional tribunals—operating under the aegis of the CDF—could also allow for variations in the laws of different nations], and a report on the early work of the new dicastery for Integral Human Development.
The meeting—the 23rd such gathering of the Council—concluded on March 28; the group will meet again late in April.
The Council of Cardinals, meeting this week in Rome, is discussing a proposal to establish Church tribunals around the world to handle sex-abuse cases. These cases are currently heard by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), which has been swamped, with a backlog of 1,800 cases. Regional tribunals—operating under the aegis of the CDF—could also allow for variations in the laws of different nations.
