New Irish Catholic Bishop Slams Abortion: Human Life “From Its Tiniest Origins” Must be Protected

Irish Catholic leaders are passionately defending unborn babies’ lives this winter as abortion activists pressure the nation to abandon its pro-life laws.

On Sunday, newly installed Catholic Bishop Brendan Kelly of Galway and Kilmacduagh told 2,000 worshipers that they must protect human life “from its tiniest origins,” the Catholic News Agency reports.

Ireland is under intense pressure to repeal its Eighth Amendment, which protects unborn babies’ right to life. Abortion activists, backed by some of the world’s richest men, are pushing the pro-life country to legalize abortion on demand. In December, a biased government committee recommended that Ireland repeal its Eighth Amendment and legalize unlimited abortions up to 12 weeks of pregnancy.

A referendum vote is scheduled for May, prior to Pope Francis’s visit to Ireland for the World Meeting of Families. There were rumblings among abortion activists that the Catholic leader’s visit could influence voters to support unborn babies’ right to life.

Kelly and other Catholic bishops in Ireland have been among the most vocal advocates against abortion.

According to CNA:

In his address, Kelly said that every human life has “immense dignity, respect and reverence that is due to every living person, regardless of ability, health, colour, size, nationality or otherwise.”

After the Mass, Kelly told the Irish Independent that he planned on prioritizing the preaching of the Gospel of Life ahead of the upcoming vote.

Kelly added that his stance on abortion had nothing to do with a mistrust of women.

“Without all the women in my life, where would I be or any of us? I am so grateful to my mother for giving me life and so grateful she gave life to eight other children,” he said.

Irish Archbishop Éamon Martin also has been preaching about the necessity of protecting every human life, from conception to natural death.

Killing an unborn child is “always evil and can never be justified,” Martin said in January. “Speak to your families, your children and grandchildren, friends and colleagues about cherishing the precious gift of life at all times from conception to natural death.”

Pro-life groups have about 1,000 volunteers knocking on doors across Ireland to save the Eighth Amendment and unborn babies’ lives. They are up against a biased media and huge, illegal donations from American businessmen who are intent on pushing abortion on demand.

Legalizing abortion in Ireland will cause women and children to suffer and die. Pro-lifers estimate that the Eighth Amendment has saved 100,000 unborn babies’ lives from abortion in Ireland.
