IRISH GOV’T: CATHOLIC COUNSELORS MUST ACCEPT GAY COUPLES

Forcing bishops to comply with Ireland’s “Equality” Law

[“The chickens have come home to roost.” Dublin Abp. Diarmuid Martin has made remarks seeming to condone homosexuality (including failing to fight vigorously against legalizing sodomarriage in Ireland) such as “I have, however, no wish to stuff my religious views down other people’s throats”. Now that it is legal, the sodomafia through the Irish government seeks to stuff its views down the Church’s throat! – AQ moderator Tom]

DUBLIN (ChurchMilitant) – The government in Ireland is mounting pressure on Catholic counselors to serve gay couples or else lose funding of client services. On Monday, the U.K. daily newspaper The Times reported that Catholic marriage counselors could be closed for “discriminating” against same-sex couples unless they change their policy refusing to serve LGBT individuals on religious grounds.

Fintan Warfield, Sinn Féin senator, supported the measure, saying, “It is wrong for public monies to be channelled at organizations who fail to serve all sections of our society.”

“Why would the state identify an organization and task them with resolving relationship difficulties when that organization fails to embrace the diverse realities of family life in Ireland, including LGBT relationships?” asked Warfield.

Ireland’s Department of Children and Youth Affairs is paying religious counseling groups — with policies refusing to marry and provide relationship counseling for homosexuals — at least 1.6 million euros. The groups are funded by Tusla, which is run by Dr. Katherine Zappone, minister for Child and Youth Affairs.
Accord, the counseling service for the Irish Catholic bishops, received over 1.5 million euros in 2016, which is 25 percent of the 6 million euros from taxpayer money for similar services that year. Accord received 3.5 million euros in 2010, but it was cut to 1.9 million euros in 2014. Accord has a policy of referring same-sex couples to other counseling services.
Tusla is forcing religious counseling organizations that receive funding “to deliver services” that are “accessible to everyone” — including those in active same-sex unions — in an effort to force compliance with “Ireland’s equality legislation.” The 2018 service level agreement was provided to all of the Tusla-funded counseling centers after a review was conducted.
Funding 21 organizations, Tusla has spent more than 6.1 million euros on family support counseling in 2016. The 2018 budget is 753 million euros. Accord, which includes Ireland’s leading prelate Abp. Diarmuid Martin on its board, has had the Catholic Church pay off 400,000 euros to the Bank of Ireland for debt.
Martin has made remarks seeming to condone homosexuality, including failing to fight vigorously against same-sex civil unions and encouraging the reception of Holy Communion by active gays.
Before the 2015 legalization of same-sex marriage in Ireland by referendum, Martin, tasked with teaching and guiding the flock, instead said, “I have, however, no wish to stuff my religious views down other people’s throats.”
Other Catholic counseling services, including Retrouvaille Ireland, have been told by Tusla not to “discriminate against people on a number of grounds, including sexual orientation.” Retrouvaille Ireland received more than 9,000 euros in 2015. The organization’s website supports Church teaching, stating that “marriage is a covenant that exists between one man and one woman.”

  1. Hypocrisy being the tribute paid by vice to virtue, none of this awful news is much of a surprise.

Ireland has well and truly fallen so holding out hope for anything but an authentic miracle to revive the Faith there is likely to be very misplaced.
