George died overnight,Prayers for his soul are most gratefully acknowledged.

I have just been informed that a dear friend, George M., from my old home town faces brain surgery on Tuesday, October 24, to remove a tumor. He also has a tumor on one kidney.

A classicist, George is a sterling example of Catholic scholarship, charity and piety.

My thanks in advance for your prayers.

Patrick

  1. Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

  2. Thank you, Tom. And everyone praying for George.

  3. Praying for your friend, George. Jesus, son of David, have mercy on him!

It is so heartening to be reminded that there are still good Catholic scholars, classicists, around.

So easy to feel swamped by today’s ‘Catholic scholars’ like Massimo Faggioli, who spouts nonsense on Twitter, such as following: “Part of job of Catholic scholar like me today is against temptations to turn thinking of US Catholicism into a medieval theme park or party” Meh!

St Peregrine, intercede for Patrick’s friend George and obtain his healing. Amen.

In paradisum deducant te Angeli; in tuo adventu suscipiant te martyres, et perducant te in civitatem sanctam Jerusalem. Chorus angelorum te suscipiat, et cum Lazaro quondam paupere æternam habeas requiem.

May the angels lead you into paradise; may the martyrs receive you at your arrival and lead you to the holy city Jerusalem. May choirs of angels receive you and with Lazarus, once (a) poor (man), may you have eternal rest.

  9. May he rest in peace.

  10. O GENTLEST Heart of Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed with burning love for the Poor captive Souls in Purgatory, have mercy on the Soul of Thy departed servant, George. Be not severe in Thy judgment, but let some drops of Thy Precious Blood fall
upon the devouring flames, and do Thou, O most merciful Savior, send Thine Angels to conduct
him to a place of refreshment, light and peace. Amen.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
