German bishops welcome papal document on liturgical translations (Source: La Croix)

Catholic World News – 10/9/17

“Liturgiam Authenticam was a dead end,” said Cardinal Reinhard Marx, the president of the German bishops’ conference, expressing gratitude to Pope Francis for giving individual episcopal conferences greater control over liturgical translations.

In fact the papal document, Magnum Principium, explicitly stated that existing Vatican directives on principles of translation—including Liturgiam Authenticam—remain in effect. [If so, why the “If it ain’t broke or doesn’t need fixing, let’s fool around with it and see if we can break it” attitude of Magnum Principium? I don’t trust those behind it or benefitting from it. – AQ moderator Tom]

Liturgy: German Bishops Attack Former Benedict XVI

en.news – 10/10/17

The official news site of the German Bishops katholisch.de allowed Father Albert Gerhards who teaches liturgy in Bonn, to attack Benedict XVI for his criticism of the present trivialization of the liturgy that obscures the presence of God. Gerhards accused Benedict XVI on October 9 of black and white thinking and claims that the liturgical changes after Second Vatican Council succeeded in creating a third way that unites divine liturgy and human “creativity”. Gerhards seems to deny the prevalent secularization of the modern Catholic liturgy.
