Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, secretary-general of the Synod of Bishops, organized in September a seminar for young people as part of the preparatory process for the 2018 Synod of Bishops on young people.

Twenty people under the age of 35, along with 70 theologians, priests and academics participated.

Thérèse Hargot, who describes herself as a philosopher and sexologist, complained that there was not enough talk about sex, “Young people want to talk about sexuality and love,” she told Catholic News Service.

Ashleigh Green, an Australian delegate, believes that “a lot of young people” cannot talk enough in most Church settings about sex, sexuality and sexual orientation.

Severine Deneulin, an associate professor in international development, complained that she started a secular career because in the Church she would not be “accepted for who I am and for my talents.”

It seems that the religious, spiritual or theological focus, the presumable core business of the Vatican, was utterly marginal during the seminar.
