Is Modernism Evolving into Nihilism?

From the world-wide web we have this definition: “Existential nihilism is the philosophical theory that life has no intrinsic meaning or value. With respect to the universe, existential nihilism suggests that a single human or even the entire human species is insignificant, without purpose and unlikely to change in the totality of existence.” This concept also leads to the the idea of theological nihilism which I will describe as the denial of God and all of His attributes. In essence, then, atheism is the logical conclusion if this concept is pursued to its eventual end.

OK, well, where does Modernism fit into this discussion? Well. to simplify matters allow us to say that it (modernism) denies objective truths which are the domain of Almighty God. If a “truth” can be changed because it is not “:modern” – i.e., it does not fit into the perspective of “modern” man then the “truth” never really existed in the first place. And, if the source of that “truth” (God) is denied existence, then God does not exist and Man is the ultimate guardian and decider of truth. But which man? Or, how many men do the deciding?

So, this is where we find ourselves in the newchurch, the “church of what’s happening now,” to coin a phrase. Cardinals and Bishops are openly at odds with each other over some of the basic elements of Christian praxis. Sin may be in the eye of the beholder and what was formerly known to be a grievous sin, such as praying with non-Catholics, heretics, pagans and outright non-believers is not now a sin or so it seems. This is the unblievable claptrap that is being foisted upon us traditional Catholics in this the 21st century. On top of that the dogma that outside the Church there is no salvation is openly subject to question in even Catholic venues. Incredible!
