Words of Consecration: The German Bishops Spread Heresies

[If the good Father believes that, then there is no consecration, and the intention for the offering of the Mass (i.e., for the living, the deceased or any other intention) is not satisfied!]

The news page of the German bishops denied on Thursday, that the words of consecration transform bread and wine into Christ’s body and the blood. Quoting the German liturgist, Father Albert Gerhards, it warns of an alleged “magical understanding” of the Eucharistic Prayer. According to him the consecration does not happen in the moment of these words. For Gerhards the words of consecration have only a “catechetical function”.

If Gerhards were right, then the words “this is my body” and “this is my blood” pronounced by the priest during Mass in the name of Christ, would contain a falsehood.

Gerhards also contradicts the Catechism of the Catholic Church (1377), “The Eucharistic presence of Christ begins at the moment of the consecration”.
