«THE POPE IS NOT THE MESSIAH, HE IS THE VICAR OF JESUS CHRIST»

Cardinal Müller presented yesterday in Rome his book “Indagine sulla esperanza”, based on a series of dialogues with the Spanish priest Francisco Granados. During the act he warned of the danger of falling into an insane popery [i.e., sycophantic papolatry].

6/6/17 ( AciStampa / InfoCatólica ) The Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith responded to Bishop Rino Fisichella, President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization. The Italian prelate asked him what can be expected of the papacy in an era when the Popes occupy the front pages of the media. Müller said: “It has struck me that some great ‘enemies’ of John Paul II and Benedict XV I, who have undermined the foundations of theology in other periods, have now become a form of popery that gives me a little fear . We return to the discussions of the First Vatican Council, with the idea that almost all the words of the pope are infallible .

“But,” added the German cardinal, ” the Pope is not the Messiah, he is the Vicar of Jesus Christ , the servant of Jesus Christ. The media sees the Pope as a character, but Pope Francis always remembers his duty to confirm in the faith . In the first days of his pontificate, Pope Francis, when they applauded him in the square, said: ” Applaud Jesus, not me. And this is the healthy perspective of the papacy . ”

In that sense, Müller warned that ” it is not good that people, reading anything about Pope Francis, go to the bishop or the pastor saying: the Pope has said … Because the pastor of the parish is the parish priest, and the Bishop in the diocese, in visible communion with the Pope. One should not concentrate everything on the Pope, because the bishop and the pastor are shepherds of the flock. You should not fall into a certain popery . ”

And he concludes : ” The true friends of the Pope are not flatterers, but those who collaborate with him and the bishops to support the faith . Certainly, the media have changed things a lot, but what is important is to live concretely the particular Church in union with the Pope ».

  1. “It has struck me that some great ‘enemies’ of John Paul II and Benedict XV I, who have undermined the foundations of theology in other periods, have now become a form of popery that gives me a little fear.”

Oh, the irony. Oh, the hypocrisy. It never stops coming from liberals.

First, the irony and hypocrisy of those prelates and priests who were enemies of the “conservative” JPII and BXVI (which popes of course were not really even conservative). They used to just go on thinking and doing what they pleased, denigrating the papal opinions because, after all, the pope isn’t infallible.
Now that they have one of their own radical libs on the throne, suddenly all who don’t bow to the current heresies are “apostates, schismatics, heretics”.
“The thief is better than a liar, but both will inherit destruction”.

Then the irony and hypocrisy of Mueller himself.
He criticizes hyperinfallibilism (what he calls ‘popery’), but then says that Francis always remembers his duty to confirm in the faith, and exhorts us to follow Jesus, not him.

And this pope does everything he can to destroy the Faith, and often directly contradicts jesus’ plain words as found in Scripture and confirmed by Tradition.

Where is such an incredible blindness coming from if not from the same ‘popery’ he condemns?

May the Seat of Wisdom open the eyes of these fools and perverts.

    • If you peruse through the news stories about Muller for the past several months, it occurs to me that he’s campaigning as the “centrist” candidate for the next Conclave.

Unfortunately, what the Cardinals would label “centrist” today, would have been considered leftist just 10 years ago.

Left, Right or Center is ultimately not the issue; the issue is the loss of the Catholic Faith.

      • If Cardinal Muller is running/standing for the papacy, he will have to appeal to members of (1) the St. Gallen Group of cardinals, who engineered the election of Jorge Bergoglio, (2) cardinals at the last conclave influenced by the Group and (3) the Bergoglian bunch of cardinals, most of whom he appointed to insure the election of a successor to continue his policies (or rather those of the St. Gallen Group). His Eminence’s “centrist” policy of one the one hand praising the Pope and stating that only His Holiness is the one who can officially interpret the meaning of Amoris Laetitia etc., and on the other hand saying that the bishops cannot offer such interpretations (“damning [some one or more persons and/or things] with faint praise”) is so transparent that IMHO it will not appeal to many (if any) of the above groups of cardinals.
