In February 1989 Soviet backed Cuban dictator Fidel Castro visited Venezuela. At his arrival 911 intellectuals and artists greeted him with a manifesto, in which they expressed their “respect for what you, as the fundamental leader of the Cuban Revolution, have achieved for the dignity of your people and, consequently, of all of Latin America.”

They called the Cuban tyrant “an endearing reference in the depth our hope, to build a just and independent Latin America”.

Among the signatories was Father Arturo Sosa, the present Superior General of the Jesuits.

  1. The guy in the photo at the top is the Superior General of the Jesuits?? Could’ve fooled me. Looks like some dude in non-clerical garb. Maybe that’s the whole point.

  2. I have a funny feeling that St. Ignatius Loyola obtained a visa for research back here on terra firma and is scouring Spain for the cannonball that shattered his leg prior to his conversion.

I also have a funny feeling about what he intends to do with it when he finds it.
