Barbara Smith, a lesbian feminist socialist, will speak at DePaul University on January 18 to discuss “Which Way Forward?: Freedom Organizing in the Twenty-First Century.” DePaul cites Smith as a “groundbreaker in opening up a national cultural and political dialogue about the intersections of race, class, sexuality, and gender.”
Gloria Steinem once called Smith the “creator of modern feminism,” and Smith called the right to abortion “basic to women’s freedom and to women’s choices and liberation.”
So to discuss the “way forward” DePaul is hosting a radical ‘70s activist with views very much opposed to Catholic teaching. Yeah, that makes sense.
