Cardinal Burke: Formal Correction Will Probably Take Place in 2017

LifeSiteNews‘ Lisa Bourne conducted an exclusive interview with Cardinal Raymond Burke in which she asked about the a timeline for the promised formal correction in the absence of a response from Pope Francis on the dubia related to Amoris Laetitia. Burke responded:

“The dubia have to have a response because they have to do with the very foundations of the moral life and of the Church’s constant teaching with regard to good and evil, with regard to various sacred realities like marriage and Holy Communion and so forth,” Burke said during a telephone interview.

“Now of course we are in the last days, days of strong grace, before the Solemnity of the Nativity of Our Lord, and then we have the Octave of the Solemnity and the celebrations at the beginning of the New Year – the whole mystery of Our Lord’s Birth and His Epiphany – so it would probably take place sometime after that.”

The cardinal, who is the patron of the Sovereign Order of Malta, said the format of the correction would be “very simple.”

“It would be direct, even as the dubia are, only in this case there would no longer be raising questions, but confronting the confusing statements in Amoris Laetitia with what has been the Church’s constant teaching and practice, and thereby correcting Amoris Laetitia,” he said.

A timeline that places the correction after the Epiphany means that the next step in this process will fall in 2017. Many Catholics devoted to the Fatima message have been increasingly concerned that 2017 — the 100th anniversary of our Lady’s final appearance to the three shepherd children and the Miracle of the Sun, which took place on October 13, 1917 — will usher in a chastisement in accordance with Our Lady’s various warnings through apparitions like Fatima, or the lesser known Akita warnings, the last of which also took place on October 13th of 1973.

At Akita, Our Lady is said to have told Sr. Agnes Sasagawa:

“The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres…churches and altars sacked; the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.”

In a video released last year before the second portion of the Synod on Marriage and Family, Cardinal Burke echoed the words of the Akita message (see time marker 26:35) when he said:

“If this means that cardinals will be opposed to cardinals, then we simply have to accept the fact that…that that’s the situation which we find ourselves. Certainly for my part, I don’t look for this kind of conflict, but…if in defending the truth of the faith I end up in a disagreement or a conflict with another cardinal what has to be primary to me is the truth of the faith and to, as a teacher of the faith, as a pastor of souls, to defend that truth.”

Whether or not the sort of chastisement many fear is imminent, we are unquestionably faced with deep and harmful divisions within the Church that are headed straight for a confrontation of historic proportions.

  1. Master Po: Ah, what is troubling you, Grasshopper?

Kwai Chang: I am confused, Master. Why is Cardinal Burke not obedient to the capricious and arbitrary imposition of dictatorial papal power by Pope Francis? Should he not display the Stockholm Syndrome obedience that peasants and slaves show to despot emperors of the Orient or ancient Egypt?

Master Po: Ah, Grasshopper, perhaps he is refusing to show his joy.

Kwai Chang: But why is he hiding his joy, Master? Has he not yet received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit from carnival-barking Pentecostalist snake handlers to roll around on the floor howling and shrieking to show his joy from being slain in the spirit?

Master Po: Perhaps the cardinal, like Pope Bergoglio, is a number eight type in the Enneagram. In keeping with his Enneagram type and the teachings of G. I. Gurdjieff, Oscar Ichazo, and Claudio Naranjo, he is regressing to strategies of self-protection to avoid being controlled or manipulated.

Kwai Chang: But why does he do that, Master?

Master Po: Because that is the way of the number eight type in the Enneagram.

    Kwai Chang: But why, Master?

Master Po: Because those are the basic fears and desires of the number eight type in the Enneagram according to the esoteric gnosticism of G. I. Gurdjieff, Oscar Ichazo, and Claudio Naranjo, as explained in four-hundred-dollar weekend Enneagram seminars, Grasshopper.

    Kwai Chang: But why, Master?

Master Po: I have told you why, Grasshopper! Now stop asking me annoying questions or I shall accuse you of hiding your joy!

Kwai Chang: There is no need to be passive aggressive to me when you are showing your joy, Master. I understand that hiding in this monastery to bully novices who are much younger than you can be stressful. But there is no need to accuse me of hiding my joy just because you are unhappy. Perhaps you should read Erich Fromm’s The Art of Loving, Master.

Doctor Strangelove: Ziss ist an existential problem, ja. From ze isolation, existential self-estrangement, alienation, und anomie of modernity.

Father Mulcahy, S.J.: Oh, yes, we have an expert on Heidegger and Karl Jaspers on the faculty at Fordham. Incidentally, there is a course on Bernard Lonergan and the crisis of modernity this semester which Master Po might find interesting….

Hans Küng: I would like to address that and issue a microaggression warning….

For Mary Richards, a childless single career woman in 1970s Minneapolis, washing her Ford Mustang while wearing a Fran Tarkenton Minnesota Vikings sweatshirt, as Glenn Frey and the Eagles crooned “Take It Easy” on her 8-track tape player, the mysteries of Zen and the progressive modernist obsession with climate change and Enneagram numbers were far from her mind…

Rhoda: You oughta take a weekend Enneagram seminar and find out your Enneagram number, Mary. It might help you find a man.

Ron Burgundy: There are other ways to find a man.

Ted Baxter: What’s an Enneagram number?

Carol Brady: What are you reading, Mike?

  2. Küng Fu: Modernism the Legend Continues

Kwai Chang: Perhaps Cardinal Burke does not know his Enneagram number because he has not yet ponied up four-hundred dollars for a weekend Enneagram seminar taught by a passive-aggressive ex-nun pastoral associate pushing the syncretism of progressive modernism, Liberation theology, and Oriental Enneagram gnosticism. It is this lack of Enneagram awareness which causes Cardinal Burke to hide his joy by resisting the neo-Kantian Situation Ethics that Pope Francis is passive-aggressively pushing on marriage, divorce, and Communion.

Master Po: Ah, Grasshopper, that is possible. Perhaps soon you will be ready to try to snatch the pebble from my hand. But not yet.

Kwai Chang: If only he would learn his Enneagram number, then he would not have to hide his joy so much and submit slavishly to the progressive modernist revolution of the Spirit of Vatican II.

Father Mulcahy, S.J.: Perhaps he has not yet found the same gnosis of discernment that the Pope would like to see in the year of mercy…

Hans Küng: I vuz going to say that!

Opie: Paw! Paw! If Floyd finds out he has the same Enneagram number as the fruitcake president of Notre Dame does that mean he could be in charge next for the Fighting Irish in South Bend?

  3. Cyprian,

I had no idea re: Akita. I have to say, the notion of apparitions true and false was an issue difficult for me to resolve during my conversion to Catholicism. I had even wondered at one point – given all the difficult things for me to reconcile regarding Fatima – that possibly it too was a false apparition. And that the popes – far from doing some horrible thing by not releasing the 3rd secret and what not – were actually trying to downplay what they knew to be a false apparition. I know this is ludicrous, but when you’re a Protestant/atheist looking into these things you come up with some rather outside the box rationalizations. I now believe – much as was said earlier – to simply put my trust in Our Mother and pray the Rosary daily.

    • The Rosary is key, is central for all Catholics today. It is the central message of hope for us at Fatima and at Lourdes. As for false apparitions, they range from heretical and weird, such as Medjugorje, to somewhat innocuous such as Akita. Akita is approved by the bishop, and I don’t think there is any heresy, but I avoid it because of the statue.

Apparitions are not essential, so if you see difficulties, set it aside, but keep praying the Rosary and living a holy life. Add more to your life as you go along, as answers pop up, or as you start to delve into it more. You know we’re living in a time of great confusion, so keeping things simple and steady-as-she-goes is important.

Feel free to ask questions here, too.

      • Cyprian said: “Akita is approved by the bishop, and I don’t think there is any heresy, but I avoid it because of the statue.”. I’m glad you said that. I’m neutral. I wouldn’t mind you talking more about the statue though, if your time permits.

        • Cyprian, I meant to also ask about the Sister handling Our Lord in the Bl Sacrament.

        • I don’t have anything more. You’ll have to get the video “Hill of Redemption” that goes into the details of the statue, the man who carved it, the messages, the Tabernacle stuff, etc. I don’t have the video anymore and don’t recall what became of it. I might have watched it 15 years ago or more.

Some folks might recall Fr. John O’Connor, O.P., (RIP) who promoted Akita. Some might recall his apocalyptic recordings. Those recordings didn’t help me to warm up to Akita. Once I had the chance in a small meeting to ask him directly about “The Lady of all Nations.” His answer was that God can bring good out of evil. He agreed that “The Lady of all Nations” is not Our Lady and that the message of socialism is evil.

  4. I never bought in on Akita. Period.

It was just “too agenda-ed” from what I read about it.

And, yes, the statue’s provenance is entirely problematic.

To be blunt, that a few prominent “traditionalists” are “into it” does bother me.

    • Since you agree with me, I’m going to “pick” on you, ok? I like the way you use quotes. I find it a fun game to move quotes around to see how it changes things. So, what you wrote, sort of:

I never “bought” in on Akita. Period.

It was “just” too agenda-ed from what I “read” about it.

And, yes, the “statue’s” provenance is entirely “problematic.”

To be “blunt” … Sorry, I just couldn’t “help” myself.
