And it was: The tear of the pope, the greek crying of Patriarch Kirill, the dry-eyed Cuban bishops
[Caesaropapism (in the sense of the lackey-ness of religious leaders to a political regime regardless of its polity) still infects the Russo-Orthodox Church and its leaders – even toward certain regimes and personalities in distant lands]

On the death of Fidel Castro the official reactions of Church leaders have been variously modulated, as shown in the comparison between those of the Pope, the Patriarch of Moscow and the Cuban bishops.
Pope Francis has expressed his sadness with a simple telegram to his brother and successor of the deceased, Raúl …
Exuberant, however, was the message of the Patriarch of Moscow, Kirill. that after expressing Raúl his “deep sorrow”, he uttered in a paean to the memory of the deceased:
“The ‘Fidel’ was one of the most famous and prominent heads of state of our times. It gained international authority and has become a legend already in his lifetime. Being flesh of the flesh of the Cuban people, has devoted all his efforts to make your home truly independent and able to occupy a prominent place in the family of nations around the world.
“In the Russian Orthodox Church the name of Fidel Castro has always spoken with respect and gratitude. With the personal participation of the ‘Commander’, a church dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was erected in Havana, of which Fidel, as he told himself, was ‘the superintendent of the building’.
“I cherish the warm memory of my meetings with the ‘Fidel’. I have always been impressed by his broad and keen intelligence, the ability to speak with competence on the most diverse topics. Our last conversation took place February 13, 2016, in his home, the day after my meeting with the Pope of Rome Francis.
“I will watch forever in my heart the good memory of this brave and charismatic, a sincere friend of the Russian Orthodox Church”.
But if you go to the Cuban bishops, that Castro and Castroism know him more closely, the music changes. And a lot.
In their terse statement , the news of death is given without adjectives. The bishops express condolences to the families and to the authorities, recommending to God the soul of “Dr. Fidel Castro Ruz” and conclude with this hope, without naming the deceased:
“We place under the mantle of the Virgin of Charity of Cobre, our Mother and Patroness, the future of their country, because she protect us and inspire us to work together in order to realize the dream for which José Martí dedicated his life: ‘A home with all and for the good of all ‘. “
