San Jose bishop blasts Trump

Bishop Patrick McGrath, without naming names, says suggesting election will be rigged “borders on the seditious”

[To paraphrase Patrick Henry: If this be seditious, make the most of it!]

OCTOBER 25, 2016 BY CAL-CATHOLIC ADMIN

null
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton at the October 19 presidential debate, during which Trump would not say if he’d accept the results of the election, and Clinton asserted that she supported unlimited abortion on-demand, including partial-birth abortion.

The following is an October 24 statement from Bishop McGrath on Election 2016 from the Diocese of San Jose website:

Since 1796, when John Adams succeeded George Washington as President, a founding principle of our great nation has been the orderly transfer of power, as an expression of the will of the people. The notion of a democracy relies upon this.

As hard-fought as many of our elections have been, our nation has always succeeded historically in coming together in a mature and civil manner, for the benefit of all, for the good of all of the people. No matter the outcome, we have united – in word and in deed – as one nation.

This year’s contentious and unsettling presidential race threatens our ability to come together as one people. The claims by some of our fellow citizens that they will not accept the final outcome of the election borders on the seditious, portending a future that would be neither civil, nor true to our common roots as Americans. We cannot do this. It is not who we are, not who we are called to be.

I ask Catholics and all people of good will to come together on November 8th and 9th and on all of the days that follow to continue to forge one nation, subject to the rule of law and to unite as one American people, committed to the common good of these United States, with its government “of the people, by the people and for the people” (Abraham Lincoln, Gettysburg Address).

  1. Since 1796, when John Adams succeeded George Washington as President, a founding principle of our great nation has been the orderly transfer of power, as an expression of the will of the people. The stability of Roe v Wade relies upon this.

As hard-fought as many of our elections have been, our nation has always succeeded historically in coming together in a mature and civil manner, for the benefit of all, except the unborn.

This year’s contentious and unsettling presidential race threatens our ability to come together around Roe v Wade. The claims by some of our fellow citizens that they will not accept the settled law of Roe v Wade borders on the seditious, portending a future that would be neither civil, nor true to our common roots as Americans. We cannot do this. It is not who we are, not who we are called to be.

I ask Catholics and all people of good will to come together on November 8th and 9th and on all of the days that follow to continue to forge one nation, subject to the rule of law and Roe v Wade, committed to the common good of these United States, not including the unborn.

  2. No emphasis on the right to life or her barbaric comments on late-term partial-birth abortion?
What would Cardinal Bellarmine, St. Edmund Campion, or St. Thomas More say about what the conditions are for a “peaceful” and civilized society? As well as a just regime? Just another example of what happens when progressive modernists are left in charge of the Catholic faith.

  3. Considering their have been reports of vote changing , dead voters voting , voters voting more than once , stuffed ballot boxes ready to go for Hildabeast , me thinks this clown of a bishop has his head to far up his cassock !

  4. The liberal politics of the progressive modernists of the Spirit of Vatican II are doing great damage to the Catholic Church and the Catholic brand. This was on display at the Al Smith Dinner in New York recently. Conservative evangelical Protestants are already using and exploiting liberal Catholic support for Hillary and Tim Kaine to reboot anti-Catholic bigotry. The ex-convert recovering Methodist conservative writer has been referring to these as examples of the failings of “Catholics” and identifies these as a reflection of “Catholicism” without informing his readers of the history of progressive modernism as a heresy or of the complexities of Vatican II and the hard work of orthodox Catholics in fighting this heresy. This kind of smearing does not serve the cause of truth on Catholic matters. Progressive modernist bishops who engage in virtue signaling against Trump while NOT saying anything about Hillary’s monstrous promotion of the barbaric practice of late-term partial-birth abortion also do great damage to the Catholic Church. This MUST stop. Present the truth about Catholic teachings on the evil of abortion or retire from the priesthood. You fake Catholics are harming the Catholic faith.

  5. Why does this Catholic leadership not have some sort of unity based on the true Faith? I was glad to hear that the NO parish priest my inlaws attend in Phoenix told his flock they cannot vote for pro abortion candidates at all and at the cathedral in Helena, Mt this past Sunday, they were told in no uncertain terms that they cannot vote for Hillary. An aquaintence of mine who is very Dem and attends the Cathedral said you would be able to hear his fat sizzling then. IOW…he is voting Hillary no matter what his Church and pastor tell him.

  6. Master Po: What seems to be troubling you, Grasshopper? Are you worried that you will have to vote for a third-party candidate in a gesture of pointless virtue signaling?

Kwai Chang: No, Master. I am concerned that your pride and excessive rigidity have taken you down the path of neo-Pelagian triumphalism which is blocking the fruits of the spirit in your soul. You do not show the signs of joyfulness that we should expect from a Shaolin Master.

Master Po: How dare you speak to me with such disrespect for my superior status and authority as your teacher, Grasshopper! It is my job to act serious so that you will submit to my endless Zen questions!

Kwai Chang: No, Master, your pride and excessive rigidity are hiding your joy.

    Megyn Kelly

Newt Gingrich: No, no! Not this time, Megyn! This is just the kind of liberal gaslighting that people are outraged about!

Newt: You can sit there smiling in your revealing Vegas stripper dresses and act like you’re above all this, but people are catching on to this act!

Father Mulcahy, S.J.: Oh, yes, immodesty in dress is not an advantage when appealing to moral outrage…

Bob Dylan: Megyn playing June Cleaver is not cutting it in the cycle of karma, so chill out, folks, and put some popcorn in the microwave! This karma is going to take a while to settle and evaporate…

    June Cleaver: Ward!

Eddie Haskell: I’m sure you wouldn’t be comfortable with Wallace dating a girl who wears short, form-fitting, leopard-print cocktail-waitress dresses with revealing cleavage, Mrs. Cleaver. Of course, the black leather dress with the zipper front also stirs quite a bit of attention when she goes in for the dominatrix look.

    June: Eddie!

    • “Conservative” Newt and “journalist” Megyn. I can barely bring myself to listen to either one of them.

      • And both are NO Catholics.

Newt’s a convert and has gone through at least two prior marriages and Kelly is now in a new “marriage” to a writer after divorcing her MD husband.

Even the priest who married Kelly and her ex stated that he had expressed concern to her that the Type A attorney (Kelly) would properly care for her husband.

  7. Newt: And one more thing, Megyn….you’re hiding your joy when you impose these double standards and play this emasculating gotcha routine!

Megyn: Well, you, sir, have anger management issues that you need to work on!
And if we were back at my house, I would wrestle you for it like a Tomboy because I enjoy playing rough with the boys! Until they dish it back, of course. But for now I will settle for emasculating you verbally on national television, as I finish my Bea Arthur impersonation!

Kwai Chang: Is Megyn Kelly hiding her joy, Master?

Master Po: I suppose many things are possible as the cycle of karma and samsara turns, Grasshopper.

Master Po: But why am I answering your questions after you accused me of excessive rigidity and neo-Pelagian triumphalism! I am the teacher, Grasshopper! You must submit to my superiority!

Dylan: The cycle of karma and samsara is reaching its limits in this election, as the Yin and Yang fall out of balance, as hipsters search for dharma
