Rome’s Grand Mosque refuses to join in anti-violence initiative
[So much for good Catholic-Muslim interfaith relations in the “City of the Sacred”]
Catholic World News – September 12, 2016
The Grand Mosque of Rome declined to take part in a national “Say no to violence” initiative that was supported by more than 2,000 other Islamic communities in Italy.
For the September 11 observance– deliberately timed for the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on America– Italian Christians were welcomed at mosques throughout the country. But the Grand Mosque did not participate. A spokesman, Abdellah Redouane, said that the observance could cause “confusion and ambiguity,” and blamed “those who seek visibility at any cost and present themselves as representative” of the Islamic faith.
