The Download—LGBT Down Under

In 2014, Michael Voris traveled to Australia to give a series of talks, and while there went undercover at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Newtown in Sydney, Australia. The parish priest, Fr. Peter Maher, is known to be an open promoter of the LGBT lifestyle, calling homosexuality “a gift,” welcoming actively gay parishioners at his weekly Friday gay Masses, which have been going on since 1972 — 44 years — the longest-running gay Masses in the world.

After recording part of the liturgy inside the parish, Michael afterwards attempted to speak with Fr. Maher, who, instead of being willing to face Michael and answer his questions, fled the scene (some of that footage of the fleeing father was recorded by the crew).

It was the second time Michael had visited the parish. His first exposé, titled “Old Sins in Newtown,” aired in 2012, and was met with hostility by current Sydney archbishop Anthony Fisher, who circulated an internal letter condemning the apostolate while quoting pro-homosexualist Dominican priest Fr. Daniel Radcliffe, O.P., who is on record calling gay sexuality “eucharistic,” and who has counseled people to allow their imaginations to be “stretched open” by reading gay literature and watching gay-themed films like “Brokeback Mountain.”

Diocesan priests, scandalized by Abp. Fisher’s internal communiqué, wrote the apostolate, sharing the letter with us. To this day, nothing has been done to stop the gay Masses at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Newtown, which continue on cue every Friday night at 8 p.m.

The parish’s latest bulletin even includes two LGBT events — a series of talks by a gay advocate, including one titled “Working for inclusion in the conservative church,” and a parish vigil for the victims of the June 13 Orlando, Florida massacre, which “reminds us how far we are from acceptance of diversity and freedom from homophobia.” The bulletin also republishes Florida bishop Robert Lynch’s pro-gay response to the Orlando shooting, where Bp. Lynch blames the language of the Catholic Church for contributing to an environment of “hate” towards homosexuals.

Missing from Lynch’s analysis — and that of Fr. Maher and every other homosexualist cleric in the Church — is the true language of the Church, which tells us that men and women suffering from same-sex attraction are not defined by their sexual attraction, but rather by the fact that they are created in the image of God, full of the dignity and worth that entails, and that they have been created to be happy and enjoy God in this life and in the next — and that happiness, temporal and eternal, is denied them if they persist in a lifestyle that ultimately only brings emotional, psychological and, in many cases, physical harm.

Our Lord, through His eternally wise commandments and decrees, shows us the way to true happiness, true joy, true freedom — we have only to be willing to trust Him. That is the true language of the Church, and it is a message of joy and freedom. “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).
