Recent essays in the Vatican newspaper suggesting that women should be allowed to preach at Mass were not written with “the intention of contradicting the current discipline,” one of the essayists said in a brief follow-up article.
Enzo Bianchi, a layman who founded and serves as prior of the ecumenical Monastic Community of Bose, said that the essays intended to explore, with the “deepest respect,” the future possibility of a bishop granting a mandatum praedicandi [mandate of preaching] at Mass, “even only temporarily,” to qualified laymen and laywomen.
