Why are Catholics supporting Trump? Catholics are tired of being taken for granted and cheated.

Why are Catholics supporting Trump? Catholics are tired of being taken for granted and cheated.

Catholics are closing ranks behind Trump, causing many inside the Beltway to ask why. However, Catholics are facing the same struggles as other Americans and they do not see establishment insiders as offering hope of anything better.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) – The Catholic vote is one of the most important votes in the nation. Catholics make key voting blocs in swing states, such as Ohio, so how Catholics go, so too does the nation. It was Catholics who elected Obama, twice.

Catholic voters can be difficult to predict. Instead of being single issue voters, they are more like the general electorate, voting for the person who supports their interests. About half of all Catholics support contraception and nearly half, abortion. Catholics are also divided on issues such as immigration reform, with some believing the nation must do more to welcome immigrants, while others feel we should follow a strict policy which excludes many.

However, Catholic have one thing in common, they don’t like being told what to do. This may seem ironic for members of a Church that is also one of the planet’s last absolute monarchies. And while Catholics will often listen to the Pope, sometimes begrudgingly, they will absolutely rail against fellow Catholics, including clergy, who tell them who they cannot vote for.

Recently, a pair of Catholic thinkers published a piece criticizing Donald Trump and those who support him in the National Review. The piece drew intense fire from Catholics who did not appreciate being criticized because of their support for Trump.

So why are Catholics rallying behind Trump?

The reason has to do with the general disgust felt by Catholics in general. American Catholics face the same problems as all other Americans. They’re tired of establishment politics that they feel has sold them out. Many have been working for a decade without seeing a significant rise in pay. They see perpetual war which is making them weary. They are tired of Obama and his policies which the Republicans seem unwilling to actually fight. They’re tired of Republican ineptitude.

As for the clergy, they’re tired of ineffective sermonizing that has done nothing to change the country. Instead of growing, the Catholic Church in America is shrinking. Few are attracted to it. Problems such as abortion, remain problems. Human trafficking, illegal immigration, drug abuse and other moral issues remain as pervasive as ever.

Indeed, if the Church had the right approach it would be much more effective, spreading virally instead of shrinking.

So Catholics tend to take exception when these same people tell them how to vote.

Catholics are choosing Trump because he seems to be their best choice for genuine, conservative change. Time and again, Catholics have sent so-called conservatives to Congress only to be quickly disappointed. Consider John Boehner (R-OH), who was formerly Speaker of the House. The morning after the last midterm elections, which gave Republicans a very clear mandate to shut down Obama’s policies, especially on the issue of religious freedom and Obamacare, Boehner met with Obama and renewed their friendship.

Catholics want someone who will fight for their interests, not sit down to coffee with their enemies.

Until Republicans get the hint that Catholics want sincere and solid, moral leadership in Washington, they will continue to vote against establishment incumbents and in favor of insurgent candidates.

Right now, that means Trump.

    Dear Representative,

From the time I was able to vote I voted Republican. I am 80 years old, and have a great deal of respect and influence with hundreds of senior ball players who also network with thousands of others around the country.

I received your questionnaire and request for money and strongly agree with every question, as I have since Obama was elected. Unfortunately the one question that was missing is “What have the Republicans done for the American people?” We gave you a majority in the House and Senate, yet you never listened to us. Now you want our money.

You should be more concerned about our votes, not our money. You are the establishment, which means all you want is to save your jobs and line your pockets… Well guess what? “It’s not going to happen” You shake in your boots when I tell you we’re giving our support to TRUMP and he hasn’t asked for a dime.

You might think we are fools because you feel Trump is on a self destruction course, but you need to look beyond Washington and listen to the masses. Nobody has achieved what he has, especially in the liberal state of New York.

You clearly don’t understand why the Trump movement is so strong, so I’d like to share with you an analogy to help explain the Trump phenomenon. By the way, it’s not just the Republicans who feel ignored and disrespected, there are plenty of Democrats and Independents who also feel let down by the Washington elite. You seem to have forgotten about “We The People” and who hired you to represent us.

So here it is, the best analogy I could come up with. Here is the reason so many Americans have boarded the Trump Train, and why you’re pleas to come back to the party who deserted us, is falling on deaf ears:

You’ve been on vacation for two weeks, you come home, and your basement is infested with raccoons. Hundreds of rabid, messy, mean raccoons have overtaken your basement. You want them gone immediately…You call the city and four different exterminators, but nobody could handle the job. There is this one guy however, who guarantees you he will get rid of them, so you hire him. You don’t care if the guy smells, you don’t care if the guy swears, you don’t care how many times he’s been married, you don’t care if he was friends with liberals, you don’t care if he has plumber’s crack…you simply want those raccoons gone! You want your problem fixed! He’s the guy. He’s the best. Period. Here’s why we want Trump: Yes he’s a bit of an ass, yes he’s an egomaniac, but we don’t care. The country is a mess because politicians have become too self-serving. The Republican Party is two-faced & gutless. Illegal aliens have been allowed to invade our nation. We want it all fixed! We don’t care that Trump is crude, we don’t care that he insults people, we don’t care that he had been friendly with Hillary, we don’t care that he has changed positions, we don’t care that he’s been married three times, we don’t care that he fights with Megan Kelly and Rosie O’Donnell, we don’t care that he doesn’t know the name of some Muslim terrorist.

This country is weak, bankrupt, our enemies are making fun of us, we are being invaded by illegal aliens and bringing tens of thousands of Muslim refugees to America, while leaving Christians behind to be persecuted. We are becoming a nation of victims where every Tom, Ricardo and Hasid is part of a special group with special rights, to the point where we don’t even recognize the country we were born and raised in; “AND WE JUST WANT IT FIXED” and Trump is the only guy who seems to understand what the people want.

We’re sick of politicians. We’re sick of the Democrat Party and the Republican Party. We just want this thing fixed. Trump may not be a saint, but he isn’t beholden to lobbyist money and he doesn’t have political correctness restraining him. All we know is that he has been very successful, he’s an excellent negotiator, he has built a lot of things, and he’s also not a politician. He’s definitely not a cowardly politician. When he says he’ll fix it, we believe him because he is too much of an egotist to be proven wrong or looked at and called a liar.

Oh yeah…I forgot…we don’t care if the guy has bad hair either.

We just want those raccoons gone.

    • Well said, Cindy.

As long as I keep looking at HRC, I’ll be able to vote for Donald. Keep me focused, folks, because every day the Donald gives me yet another reason not to vote for him. The latest is the wifey photo. Do I just chalk it up as another First-Lady porn spread? Arrgh! Excuse me while I go empty my stomach.

    CatholicVote Endorses Ted Cruz

[“CATHOLICVOTE.ORG CIVIC ACTION, A 501(C)4 ORGANIZATION. CONTRIBUTIONS TO CATHOLICVOTE.ORG ARE NOT TAX-DEDUCTIBLE” and we don’t have a tax-exempt status to lose for endorsing Ted Cruz]

The website CatholicVote endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for president today, saying that they feel as though he is the best of all remaining candidates on the issues of life, marriage, and religious liberty.

Today we are proud to endorse Ted Cruz for President.

Senator Cruz has consistently defended the First Amendment right to religious liberty. As Solicitor General of Texas, Ted Cruz argued in favor of a Ten Commandments display in court. The case eventually led to a Supreme Court victory for religious expression.

Cruz has promised to investigate Planned Parenthood and stop once and for all the taxpayer giveaway of hundreds of millions of dollars every year to the abortion giant.

Cruz has a plan to lower taxes for everyone, abolish the IRS, and repeal job-killing regulations that hurt workers and small businesses.

Cruz understands the qualities necessary for Supreme Court justices that will obey the Constitution.

Cruz has never wavered in his support of the rights of those working to create a marriage culture.

Cruz has fought Obamacare in the Senate and has promised to repeal it as President.

Cruz has a real plan to defeat ISIS – not just rhetoric – and has promised to protect Christians in the Middle East, without resorting to war crimes or torture.

Further, the editors feel as though Cruz has the best chance of defeating Hillary Clinton this November. CatholicVote is based in Wisconsin, which votes in a winner-take-all primary on April 5, and the site plans to be actively campaigning for Cruz in the state.
There are about 1.4 million Catholic voters in Wisconsin.

It’ll be very interesting to see if Wisconsin’s Catholics can mobilize around Cruz. There are no Catholic candidates remaining in the election, and Trump has received considerable Catholic support.

Cruz has a slight lead in Wisconsin polls.
