Boston Globe to end sponsorship of Crux web site
Catholic World News – March 11, 2016
The Boston Globe is ending its involvement with Crux, the web site that the Globe established less than two years ago to reach a Catholic reading audience.
In a memo to the newspaper’s staff, Globe editor Brian McGrory announced that the Globe would pull out of the Crux experiment, effective April 1. “We simply haven’t been able to develop the financial model,” he explained. The decision will require some layoffs, he said.
John Allen, the veteran Vatican journalist who has been the star columnist for Crux since its launch in September 2014, said that the web site will continue to operate, albeit at a reduced level. Allen– who has received the rights to the site from the Globe– said that he would pursue advertisers and sponsors to continue the operation.
