(AoftheANews) Vatican sources have told AoftheA News that the pilots for “Shepherd One”, the chartered jet used for papal flights, have vowed to intentionally ground the plane if the Holy Father continues to grant media interviews on future trips.
According to sources, one pilot promised he would take off without the Holy Father on board, should he refuse to sign an affidavit promising to ignore the media on return flights, and remain in first class where he belongs.
“They also said they’d be perfectly content sitting on the tarmac for hours on end because of ‘technical difficulties’, if the Holy Father refuses to promise,” one source reported.
“The pilots are tired of the controversies,” another source told AoftheA News. “These off-the-cuff remarks are confusing and upsetting, and in their opinion, do more harm than good. I think the Holy Father ought to take their position very seriously.”
Catholic blogger Sadie van Kantest, made famous after her phone conversation with Pope Francis in 2014, thinks the pilots’ ultimatum may backfire. “While I applaud any effort to stop Francis’ plane pressers, this is a bad idea. If they take off without him, he’ll just get a coach ticket on the next plane to Rome. To me, Francis chatting it up with airline passengers for hours on end would be way, way worse.
“The best idea is keeping him away from microphones altogether.”
