Born in Holland, Fr Greuter felt a calling not just to the priesthood, but to come to Canada. Here he attended seminary and was ordained in Calgary in 1954. After various postings in Alberta he was confronted with the changes in the church in the 1960’s. He stayed true to the Mass of All Time which eventually led him to begin a traditional parish in Vernon, BC. Here he served the faithful for many years and then after one year in Langley, BC, Father spent his last years as pastor at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Nanaimo, BC.

Known for his deep love of the Virgin Mary and for his stirring sermons, Father will be sorely missed by all the faithful whose lives he has touched. Let us pray that Our Lady took him quickly to his reward on her feast day of the Miraculous Medal.

Details of his funeral arrangements will be posted here as soon as they are finalized.

Father wrote an article about his life, in the January 2010 Convictions Magazine called
I can see God’s Hand guiding everything.

  1. O God, Thou didst raise Thy servant, Father Greuter, to the sacred priesthood of Jesus Christ, according to the Order of Melchisedech, giving him the sublime power to offer the Eternal Sacrifice, to bring the Body and Blood of Thy Son Jesus Christ down upon the altar, and to absolve the sins of men in Thine own Holy Name. We beseech Thee to reward his faithfulness and to forget his faults, admitting him speedily into Thy Holy Presence, there to enjoy forever the recompense of his labors. This we ask through Jesus Christ Thy Son, our Lord. Amen.

  3. Grant, we beseech Thee, O Lord, that the soul of Thy servant Paul, Thy priest, whom in this life Thou didst honor with the sacred office, may rejoice in the glory of heaven for evermore. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Lord, we pray Thee that the soul of Thy priest, Thy servant Paul, which, while he abode in this world, Thou didst adorn with sacred gifts, may ever rejoice in a glorious place in heaven. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  4. Well done good and faithful servant. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace, Amen. O Mary conceived without sin, intercede with Your Divine Son to care for those souls still left on earth, including all those who, despite tremendous obstacles and persecution, still hold to the one true Faith.

  5. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.
