Prayers Requested for Fr. Mark Violette

Fr. Violette of the Servants of the Holy Family Community is in the hospital with a serious heart condition. Your prayers are requested for this valiant soul who has done so much to advance the cause of Tradition. Hospital visits are not recommended at this time. Sacred Heart of Jesus be his hope and consolation. The Servants’ website is at www.servi.org for those interested in knowing more about them.

  1. A rosary offered for Father Violette.

  2. Paul, I don’t mean to be confrontational, but can you fill us in about the community? They aren’t *bleeps*, are they? It seems not, but it’s not clear from what I can read online. Wikipedia mentions that the local bishop at one time gave the priests faculties to hear confessions, but discussions subsequently broke down. What is the lineage of their priests?

    Prayers for Fr. Violette.

  3. Cyprian,
The community has its roots in the SSPX in that the Father Superior was ordained by Archbishop Lefebvre but the other priests were ordained by a bishop in full communion with the Holy See. I guess one could call them “independents” but certainly not “sedes”. For further information on the community see my recent post “Point – Counterpoint” on Mar 13th.

    • Better still, anyone having questions about the Servants of the Holy Family should contact them directly through their website www.servi.org for the truth.

    • Oh, yes – I recall reading your post, but it didn’t come back to me. That is very good news about the community. What a godsend, having a bishop who would ordain the priests, not some Thuc-line bishop of questionable ordination, or what-not.

These are extraordinary times, and the faithful need to do what is necessary for the salvation of souls, as you point out so well in your Point — Counterpoint.

It is also good to see some efforts among the hierarchy to accommodate “independent” priests, such as Bp. Sheridan granting faculties, however limited. Of special note was Pope Benedict’s lifting of the excommunications on the bishops of the SSPX. Whether you viewed that as unnecessary or not, it was a kindness to the faithful, lifting the burden of conscience. These are the conscientious souls who simply want to be Catholic but cannot in good conscience take their families to the novel liturgies and teachings.

  4. O Lord, send Your angels to help our beloved Fr. Mark as You have promised in the Psalm –
Send angels to charge over us to keep us in our ways, so that we will not even stub our foot against a stone .
Your wisdom is beyond our understanding, and Your mercy is boundless,
and Your love never ends. In Your love and Your mercy, deal with Fr. Mark and us according to your gentleness.
Send Your healing touch to bring Your servant, Fr. Mark, from this couch of sickness,
the bed of suffering – so that he may rise to glorify with us Your Holy Name.

We know You have made our bodies but temporal vehicles.
We are grateful for Your mercy, gentleness and love given through him,
and we ask through Your eternal kindness for those that follow Your ways that give him strength and healing of body, mind and soul.
As You have taught us: “With God all things are possible”
(Mark 10:27). So, we put our hope and trust in You. O Lord let us share tears of joy rather than sorrow about Your continuing work with our beloved Fr. Mark.
This we ask of You together with the Father which is from everlasting and the Holy Living Spirit – now and always. Amen. +
