Rome mayor recognizes gay marriages, riles [govt] minister, bishops

Apparently, most of Italy is still civilized, apart from the Vatican and its surroundings.

A poll taken last year showed gay marriage was supported by just a quarter of the population in Italy. The same survey showed more than 85 percent backed the recognition of so-called “civil unions” to give same-sex partners more rights.

Italy’s Episcopal Conference, the national association of bishops, issued a statement in similar tones.

“Such arbitrary presumption, put on show right here in Rome at the present time, is unacceptable,” it said, in an apparent reference to a major assembly of bishops from around the world which has been going on at the Vatican for the last two weeks.

  1. In this case, it’s difficult to tell which are the homos and which aren’t.

  2. I can’t imagine (well actually I can) what my maternal and paternal Italian grandparents would think about this abomination happening in their former Catholic motherland. Italy, like Ireland and Poland were probably up until recently still pretty much Catholic. Not any more. Of course when you have a brain-dead modernist at the helm of the barque of Peter abominations like this happen, because the perverts and the liberals in Italy and elsewhere know there will be no repercussions. Sts Peter and Paul, St.Lawrence of Rome, St. Benedict, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Claire and St.Catherine of Siena pray for Rome, and for Italy.
