  1. Prayers. I hope you have time to seal up the house to keep smoke out.

  2. My Rosary tonight for you and yours.

Patrick, if you’ve taken your missal with you pray the Litany of the Saints when you can. I’ve been through many flood threats with my backyard river here and have seen the danger reverse itself with this most powerful prayer of the Church. When you get to the line about fire repeat it.

Our Lord and Lady go with you!

  3. Praying for you and yours, dear friend.

  4. God Bless ! Good Luck !

  5. Prayers offered, Patrick.

  6. Praying.

My husband’s got family in Carlsbad. I’m waiting to hear from them. (Add in prayers for their conversion from Mormonism.)

  7. You are in our prayers! Do not lose hope. God is good.

  8. Run away ! Run away!

Stay safe, my friend. Prayers from here!

  9. I have been praying since I saw your first post on this. God bless you and keep you safe.

  10. Josefa on said:

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum.
    Benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus.
    Sancta Maria, Mater Dei,
    ora pro nobis peccatoribus,
nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

may our Lady’s mantle cover you and yours

  11. As I finally get ready for bed, (I know its past 6 AM here on the east coast but I keep ghastly hours!) I am so scared to have not heard an all clear from you, Patrick. You remain deeply on my mind. But I am a slave of our Lady and I have placed this cause in her hands. May she strengthen all those exhausted firemen and give success to their ceaseless labor and save Carlsbad and the whole San Diego area.

Having known the desolation of emergency evacuation, I know that life must be surreal for you right now. Stay strong, o friend in Christ.

  12. Patrick, are you in Carlsbad, East of El Camino Real?

  13. San Marcos area, Vinny. South and east of C’bad, and E of ECR. I drive that route all the time, however. It probably looks like a moonscape now, though.

My place is in the hills and that is not good at a time like this.

  14. Glad you all got out safely Gpmtrad. I pray that your home and property were/are spared any damage. I don’t know how true it is but I heard on my local news (Massachusetts) that they had to evacuate Camp Pendleton also because of these fires.

  15. St. Barbara is a protectress against fires, among other dangers. She is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers.

St. Barbara, please intercede for us, and guide us, not only in times of danger of fire destroying our physical bodies, but more importantly for those times when our souls are in danger of eternal fire. Amen.

  16. Adoro te, Carlsbad seems to be well contained and people are moving back in from what I can see on local news. It seemed to be in a localized area but folks well north of the fire area and west, closer to the beach, seem to have been spared.

If I can learn more from local tv I’ll try to post it re. Carlsbad. Not a great many houses were lost and there were few if any casualties, from what I’ve seen.

You can check the Red Cross website. They are promoting that on tv so others not in the area can learn that friends and family are safe. There may be trouble in some cases with phones since local power is on and off consistent with events on the ground.

Generally, Carlsbad seems to be beginning to get back on its feet this morning so I hope all is well for your relatives.

  17. My parents used to live in Lake San Marcos and there was a big fire there back in the 1990’s. They were out of town at the time and their neighborhood was spared any damage.

  18. Glad you are safe !! Let us know when home safely. If you have to be shipwrecked, San Diego is not a bad place to marooned!

  19. Glad to hear you and yours are ok. My husband’s relatives are so far ok as well as of last night. They are south of the fire from what I gathered, but they said there were nine fires burning. (They live on Gaviota Circle in Carlsbad.) They still need prayers for conversion.

  20. Continued prayers!!!

  21. The news is reporting a fatality in a transient camp. RIP

The summer is just gearing up too. Then, there’ll be the problem of mudslides and such when the rains hit the burned areas. More prayers being said.

  22. I will have to move later this morning and may be without internet. I’ll have to see.

I will try to update through Tim or Catherine via iPhone messages but my family and I are safe and just waiting to hear when we can return. Fire activity remains in the San Marcos fire but the winds are predicted to be much less today, thank God.

Cannot say enough about our fire fighters. The casualties could have been SO much worse and losses to property unbelievably high were it not for every last one of those great men on the line and in the air.

My thanks to all for your prayers, messages and for just being there for us.

  23. Thank you for the update, Patrick. You and yours remain in our prayers. God bless and keep you.

  24. Glad for good news !! God Bless and stay safe !!!

  25. Home. Deo gratias!

Et gratia omnia vobis! All your prayers and encouragement meant SO much!

No damage whatsoever in the immediate vicinity, either.

And, 747Pilot, roger that! I stayed last night right across the street from Petco Park, home of the fearless but clueless Padres. Unfortunately, baseball’s answer to the Buffalo Bills was on the road. And we got to see Marine aviators up close and personal, btw. Chopper squadrons at USN base in the city and up at Camp Pendleton flew Sikorskies, Chinooks and anything else that could haul a bucket. It made an enormous difference.

There are a lot of firefighters and military pilots out here that will not be able to pay for their own beer until 2044. They were all magnificent and that I’m back at my own desk typing this right now is proof positive!

  26. Great News. The Navy and Marine Corp always come through. God Bless them all !!!

  27. Our Lord and our Lady be praised!

So good to know you are home.:)

    Te Deum laudamus:
    te Dominum confitemur.
    Te aeternum Patrem
    omnis terra veneratur.
    Tibi omnes Angeli;
    tibi caeli et universae Potestates;
    Tibi Cherubim et Seraphim
    incessabili voce proclamant:
    Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus,
    Dominus Deus Sabaoth.
    Pleni sunt caeli et terra
    maiestatis gloriae tuae.
    Te gloriosus Apostolorum chorus,
    Te Prophetarum laudabilis numerus,
    Te Martyrum candidatus laudat exercitus.
    Te per orbem terrarum
    sancta confitetur Ecclesia,
    Patrem immensae maiestatis:
    Venerandum tuum verum et unicum Filium;
    Sanctum quoque Paraclitum Spiritum.
    Tu Rex gloriae, Christe.
    Tu Patris sempiternus es Filius.
    Tu ad liberandum suscepturus hominem,
    non horruisti Virginis uterum.
    Tu, devicto mortis aculeo,
    aperuisti credentibus regna caelorum.
Tu ad dexteram Dei sedes, in gloria Patris.
    Iudex crederis esse venturus.
Te ergo quaesumus, tuis famulis subveni:
    quos pretioso sanguine redemisti.
Aeterna fac cum sanctis tuis in gloria numerari.
    Salvum fac populum tuum,
    Domine, et benedic hereditati tuae.
Et rege eos, et extolle illos usque in aeternum.
    Per singulos dies benedicimus te;
Et laudamus Nomen tuum in saeculum, et in saeculum saeculi.
Dignare, Domine, die isto sine peccato nos custodire.
    Miserere nostri Domine, miserere nostri.
    Fiat misericordia tua,
Domine, super nos, quemadmodum speravimus in te.
    In te, Domine, speravi:
    non confundar in aeternum.

  28. Whew! I’ve (we’ve, I’m sure) been anxiously awaiting your post.

I’ve read reports that many of the fires were arson. Prayers for the firefighters, for those who suffered, and for those who committed this atrocity.

    • There were two cases (not one of them one of the 9 major fires, btw) where teens with the IQ of a grape got nailed. The damage they caused was almost nothing but they were stupid enough to try during a state of emergency so the penalties go way up!

Meanwhile, the FBI, ATF, etc. are working with local and state investigators even as we speak and it will go on until they determine IF arson was involved.

I tend to think it COULD (but not necessarily HAD TO) be the case. The pattern is semi-circular, the ease of pulling it off (with the right techniques – and about those I know zilch, except from a few novels over the years) under ideal environmental conditions, etc. It’s not much of a stretch to see the possibility. I’ve even read Al Qaida training manuals cover the matter.

But, until somebody gets sentenced, it’s all speculation.

  29. Deo gratias!

Remember to be on guard, though, as the next few months could be even worse. Have the stuff you really need to take ready to go if you have to leave fast.

  30. Josefa on said:

Yes, Deo gratias- glad your home!

  31. OOOPS!

A careful reading of what I said, above, might leave visitors with the impression that I read AQ training manuals as some form of intellectual exercise. I hasten to point out that that is not the case at all. I’ve never read one and have no plans to ever do so. Democrat agitprop is subversive enough stuff to read.

I SHOULD have said; ” I’ve even read THAT Al Qaida training manuals cover the matter.” I’ve simply read such claims and mentioning that.

So, no, I’m not peeking in on enemy tactics; just mentioning what others who do that professionally have revealed.

  32. They are already lining up the usual suspects. Kangaroo court will be in session soon.

  33. A fire is burning in Oak Creek Canyon. Human caused. We used to live in Flagstaff and Kachina Village. They’re on pre-evacuation status. My husband used be work as a firefighter there as well. Please pray for all those souls to dodge this bullet as well as convert to Catholicism. Thank you.

As I stated earlier in this thread, fire season is just starting….
