CCCB comment on reported remarks by Bishop Fellay, Superior General of the Society of St. Pius X

Friday, January 18 2013

Questions and concerns have been raised following recent media reports about a statement that had been made in Canada by the Superior of the Society of Saint Pius X that “the Jews” are the “enemies of the Church”. The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops notes that such remarks are not in accordance with the teaching of the Catholic Church. As the spokesperson for the Holy See, Father Federico Lombardi, S.J., has said when commenting on the statement, “It is absolutely unacceptable, impossible, to define the Jews as enemies of the Church.”

The Second Vatican Council taught in Nostra Aetate, its Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions (no. 4): “God holds the Jews most dear for the sake of their Fathers; he does not repent of the gifts he makes or of the calls he issues – such is the witness of the Apostle [Paul]…. [T]he Church, mindful of the patrimony she shares with the Jews and moved not by political reasons but by the Gospel’s spiritual love, decries hatred, persecutions, displays of anti-Semitism, directed against Jews at any time and by anyone.” This teaching has been reiterated time and time again by Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops denounces all forms of anti-Semitism, and rejects assertions such as those reported to have been made by the Superior of the Society of Saint Pius X, which is a schismatic group not in communion with the Catholic Church.

  1. The CCCB said, “This teaching has been reiterated time and time again by Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI.”

Were not there many popes before the above two who said something quite different?

  2. This is a whole enchilada for the Modernists running Rome today. Ecumenism IS the new world religion and THEY are its apostles, evangelists, worker bees, PR and ad men, as well as its investment bankers, prosecutors, judges, baillifs and wardens, its shrinks and theologians, its long-haul drivers and its local taximen. They are Toyota, Nissan and Mercedes Benz, combined, when compare to their barbaric and bumptious BFFs at the UN, the WCC, etc. “Hey look! Somebody LIKES us! Wow! What a relief after our own Catholics have caught on to the the theological *$&^#$@ we’ve been peddling for 50 years!”

Having told Christ Our Lord: “Thanks! but we’ll take it from here. Just sit back, take off Your crown and put Your feet up!” these intellectualoid hot air balloons, all their gas escaping as they feverishly dash about patching one hole after another in their theologically worthless airframes, have anthropomorphocized themselves into catastrophe.

  3. Blah, blah, blah…..these modernists get boring after a while, don’t they?

  4. “This teaching has been reiterated time and time again by Popes John Paul II and Benedict XV”

Every time they open their mouths, they sure make it sound like the “NEW” Magisterium, don’t they? The humorous part is watching them tie themselves into pretzels explaining why it isn’t.

  5. Actually, I think it’s jealousy on the part of the Canadian bishops.

They see what German, American and Irish prelates get away with and figure, hey, what the hey, eh? Let’s get in on the action, eh?
