Declaration of the Pontifical Commission “Ecclesia Dei”

The Pontifical Commission “Ecclesia Dei” takes this occasion to announce that, in its most recent official communication (6 September 2012), the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X has indicated that additional time for reflection and study is needed on their part as they prepare their response to the Holy See’s latest initiatives. The current stage in the ongoing discussions between the Holy See and the Priestly Fraternity follows three years of doctrinal and theological dialogues during which a joint commission met eight times to study and discuss, among other matters, some disputed issues in the interpretation of certain documents of Vatican Council II. Once these doctrinal dialogues were concluded, it became possible to proceed to a phase of discussion more directly focused on the greatly desired reconciliation of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X with the See of Peter. Other critical steps in this positive process of gradual reintegration had already been taken by the Holy See in 2007 with the extension of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite to the Universal Church by the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum and in 2009 with the lifting of the excommunications. Just a few months ago, a culminating point along this difficult path was reached when, on 13 June 2012, the Pontifical Commission presented to the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X a doctrinal declaration together with a proposal for the canonical normalization of its status within the Catholic Church. At the present time, the Holy See is awaiting the official response of the superiors of the Priestly Fraternity to these two documents. After thirty years of separation, it is understandable that time is needed to absorb the significance of these recent developments. As Our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI seeks to foster and preserve the unity of the Church by realizing the long hoped-for reconciliation of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X with the See of Peter – a dramatic manifestation of the munus Petrinum in action – patience, serenity, perseverance and trust are needed.

In other words, now that Bishop Williamson has been expelled, we are back on course.

    Obviously, Rome thinks so!
Both typical and predictable. I fully expected them to go from claws out, to smooch-smooch, lets kiss and hug and move forward now!!! I’m actually a little surprised that it took them this long to poke their heads above the waterline and……..it ain’t gonna work!!! Though Bishop Williamson’s expulsion was inevitable, the actions of the Society won’t change! Respond, get a response, respond, get a response, respond, get a response, etc,,etc., etc.! If there’s one group in the world that can play the “Let’s see how long we can drag this out” game better than Rome, it’s the Society! Unless Rome offers them the deal of the century, with full autonomy and no interference (no breath will be held here), you’ll see nothing more than this!!! What’s the point of this???!!
Only to leave the door open for Providence, hold off condemnation from Rome as long as they can, so to allow them to reach a greater amount of souls for the greater glory of God, until either justice has been done, or the axe falls once more!!!
Though some would like to play this out as if it were checkers with sledge hammers, it’s a chess game with the very highest of stakes……..the eternal souls of many!!!

Seems like a gracious and prudent response. I think the best course is to keep praying for all involved.

    • Knight of Mary says:

The best course is a dismissal of Fellay and a vote for B. Tissier as SG. I am so disappointed that the society started by A/B Lebfevre has become polluted with money and greed with a zionist Jew as a “buddy” of Fellay. Then an investigation of the two corporations should be thorough with consequences for Fellay and Krah possibly in criminal courts. Yes, et cum spirit 220, storm Heaven with prayers for the 3 bishops to take the helm and allow Fellay to walk the board – overboard. These are perilous times with the smoke of satan “within” Menzingen.

IT’S MORE LIKE THE SMOKE OF SATAN HAS ENTERED INTO THIS SITE!!!
“polluted with money and greed with a zionist Jew as a “buddy” of Fellay.???!!
        PROVE IT OR SHUT UP!!!
If you keep defaming a man with out so much as providing one iota of evidence,( and no, the World Globe is not a credible source!!!) then you will eventually find God kicking you where the sun doesn’t shine, SO HARD, that you’ll have Holy shoe strings hanging out of your nostrils!!! PUT UP OR SHUT UP TROLL!!!

Very true. Over the spring, Bp. Fellay’s response to repeated assaults – ask for prayers – in the face of leaks, personal attacks, disobedience, et cetera, was a true mark in his favor. By their fruits ye shall know them. Prayer is never the wrong answer. In my heart, I strongly believe the Holy Father really wants the Society fully recognized and given a wide mission. In the face of those who say it will NEVER happen, I wonder if he will surprise all of us after all. Perhaps a grand gesture? One can hope.
