Communiqué of the General House of the Society of Saint Pius X (October 24, 2012)

24-10-2012

Bishop Richard Williamson, having distanced himself from the management and the government of the SSPX for several years, and refusing to show due respect and obedience to his lawful superiors, was declared excluded from the SSPX by decision of the Superior General and its Council, on October 4th, 2012. A final deadline had been granted to him to declare his submission, after which he announced the publication of an “open letter” asking the Superior General to resign.

This painful decision has become necessary by concern for the common good of the Society of Saint Pius X and its good government, according to what Archbishop Lefebvre denounced: “This is the destruction of authority. How authority can be exercised if it needs to ask all members to participate in the exercise of authority? “(Ecône, June 29, 1987)

No haste involved. Took long enough. Pride cometh before a fall.

  2. petrus69 says:

Great!!!!!!!!!!! Now let us move on.

  3. christusvincit says:

Williamson is a brilliant man, which was his downfall. No matter what, he needs to obey his lawfully constituted authority, as we all learned in the Baltimore Catechism.

  4. Stephen Spencer says:

Williamson’s actions made no sense to me on any level. I have not the slightest notion why he did not leave SSPX voluntarily long ago.

    • gpmtrad says:

Not really an answer to your plight, Stephen, but it reminded me of an old story from Abe Lincoln….

“Small town with one lawyer, the lawyer starves. Small town with TWO lawyers, and, in no time, they’re both raking it in.”

And no, I’m NOT implying I think +W was working to build up a stash of $$$. I hope he has enough to live decently and can go about his affairs in reasonable comfort.

I just read Bishop Williamson’s “open letter” to Bishop Fellay.

The google translator is ‘ok’ but it reads better in the original french.

My conclusion is that it was a ‘parting shot’ and I get the sense that it basically says “it wasn’t my fault – you made me do it”.

  6. Charlotte NC Bill says:

Fellay calls the Jews our “elder brothers ” now just as the Novus Ordo…Though they add ” in the Faith” immediately and every time…He says the religious liberty spoken of in the council is a ” very narrow one”…He’s hired a Mossad-connected lawyer-Krah-who arranges his press conferences and handles our investments now….He’s been vindictive and dictatorial towards the priests that preached against any sellout and abusive and disrepectful towards Bp Williamson…Now, after his expulsion, SSPX spokesman Andreas Steiner says this will ” facilitate talks” …Which is also the real reason behind expelling so many good priests…The Archbp at one time said that Card Ratzinger “is not Catholic”….And this is the man Bp Fellay is so eager to make a deal with…Exactly how is he not a departure fm the ArchBp?
Now you can intone “authority” and “obedience” all you want…But you can’t use those words to abuse people ( the last 40 yrs of history of the Novus Ordo have taught us that-if anything ) or endanger the mission of the SSPX..Understand; Bp Fellay wasn’t always like this…but leadership brings out one’s true self..

Bill said… He’s hired a Mossad-connected lawyer-Krah-who arranges his press conferences and handles our investments now….

Provide proof for this statement. I have researched this information and have found no evidence, only anonynmous postings.

Bill said… He’s been vindictive and dictatorial towards the priests that preached against any sellout and abusive and disrepectful towards Bp Williamson.

FYI – do a Google search for lots of the same accussations against Bishop Williamson. They are there and there are lots of them.

Bill said… Which is also the real reason behind expelling so many good priests…

So many? Please, I think the reality is hardly any. 3 does not make so many.

Bill said… The Archbp at one time said that Card Ratzinger “is not Catholic”….And this is the man Bp Fellay is so eager to make a deal with…Exactly how is he not a departure fm the ArchBp?

You should try reading the Archbishop’s words yourself – the full length version, not the cropt quotes that everyone likes to post. The Archbishop also said these things:

“What ought we to do in regard to the authorities in their position? To lock ourselves in our resistance as in a tower of ivory? Or rather to try to persuade the Roman authorities? I have not taken the course of breaking off communication with Rome.”

“Tomorrow, well! If God wishes it—and I think that He would wish that!—He will integrate us into the official Church, such as we are.”

“May the Church return to Tradition, but by little steps because it is difficult to do so all at once. Nevertheless, it must be evident that everything is in the process of turning towards normalcy, Tradition, and the teachings of all time.”

“Why have connections with Rome if we cannot understand each other? Because we ought to hope that we can have an effect on Rome to help her return to her senses and to the Faith she is obliged to defend. We would say to her: “After the Council you veered off the right path! Come back to Tradition, and you will see that the Church will resume her normal course. Vocations will blossom, the seminaries will flourish, and religious congregations will grow.””

“Someone was saying to me yesterday, “But what if Rome accepted your bishops and then you were completely exempted from the other bishops’ jurisdiction?” But firstly, they are a long way right now from accepting any such thing, and then, let them first make us such an offer!

“Now, stay in touch with them to bring them back, to convert them to Tradition, yes, if you like, that’s the right kind of ecumenism!”

“You four will be bishops for the Church, at the service of the Society of St. Pius X, as laid out in the Protocol of May 5. The Society has the standing to deal with Rome. It will be the Superior General’s job, when the time comes, to pick up the threads again with Rome.”

“Finally, I beseech you to remain attached to the Priestly Society of St. Pius X, to remain profoundly united amongst yourselves, in submission to the Society’s Superior General.”

      • LucasB. says:

        Bravo, and well quoted, NeelyAnn.

It might also be pointed out that Bishop Williamson was directly involved in the expelling of the famous “Nine.” Regardless of their doctrinal or liturgical views, the fundamental reason for their expulsion was their refusal to obey the direction of their superiors, Fr. Schmidtburger and Archbishop Lefebvre. This situation is very similar.

  7. Charlotte NC Bill says:

I urge you to check out www.sossaveoursspx.com I’m not sure I can keep going there..I certainly don’t want to….St Anne’s has a Latin Mass on Wed nights..obviously I’m not thrilled to go there either..This is tragic.

    • NeelyAnn says:

The SOS site is full of nothing but lies so I would advise everyone to stay away from that site. My husband was a witness to one of the accounts given that was a lie and I have spoken to others from the parish who have confirmed that this man is not to be trusted.

  8. Husam al Din says:

I can’t believe, after all this time and all hiscompletely whacky, extreme comments Mr. Williamson still has so many sycophants who, cognitive dissonance being what is it, cannot accept what he was. I knew him from many contacts with him. I’ve been warning here for years that he would doom the Society. This is probably too little too late, but at last this cancer on the Society is gone. Hope he takes all the others who support his arrogance and errors with him. Now, let’s see who the lemmings are with comments that follow this post..

  9. quomodo says:

Although I am not a particular cheerleader for Bishop Williamson-I believe he dropped the “Mr” upon ordination- I have taken a moment to quietly thank Our Lord for having sent us your useful post, Husam. I mean how else would I be able to draw my own conclusions in the absence of your charitable and obviously well-informed insider perspective?

Sycophant lemmings, my Aunt Fanny (she lives in Port St Lucie, Fl, by the way). I’d prefer straight forward discourse to a clashing gong any day of the week.
