Bishop Williamson

SSPX: Williamson removed
Rorate has learned and can confirm that Bishop Richard Williamson, one of the four bishops consecrated by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and co-consecrated by Bishop Antonio de Castro Mayer on June 30, 1988, in Écône, Switzerland, for the Society of Saint Pius X (FSSPX / SSPX) has been removed from membership in said society by its Superior General, and can now be considered a former member. The removal comes at the end of an internal procedure that included repeated entreaties by the higher authorities of the Society regarding Williamson’s decisions and actions that apparently went unheeded.

  1. It’s tragic that it has come to this, but there was really no other option.

  2. It is tragic.

3 Hail Marys for His Excellency.

  3. Why does this seem so uneventful.

I was expecting a lot more drama.

  4. Let’s see where all this leads. I’ve differed on this and that with HE regarding his extra-theological peculiarities. But, I still think that a mano a mano twixt he and Benoit would be the hottest ticket in town.

‘Course, that would mean some bigwigs in sunny Nova Roma would have to clear their calendars and that won’t be easy. After all, it’s a busy, busy year ahead.

There’s the Cd. Koch “Evening With The Stars” gala at Temple El Macaroni, off the Via Judaica, and then there’s the Tielhard deChardin Testimonial Dinner next month and, right after that, the “Hindu Dancing WIth The Deity-of-Your-Choice Waltz-Offs” to judge, followed immediately by the “Calvinist Annual Canyon Yodelling Contest” and, as always, Kiko and Carmen’s Pizza-Spinning competition to attend.

  5. imo: I don’t think we’re going to see a lot of drama, but perhaps some tragedy.

One thing that I believe is certain is that those who share Bishop Williamson’s opinions will probably leave.

During a problem with a priest, the District Superior told a few of us: You’ll be surprised by who stays and by who goes.

    He was right.

  6. McDee,

What world do you live on?

If Bishop Williamson does what I think you think he will do, he’ll just be discounted as a crackpot.

  7. @tradical,

I agree. He’ll continue to spin his conspiracy theories and all that stuff and just be dismissed as a wild horse. The two sad things that come to mind are

1.) All the unfortunate souls he will take with him.

2.) The mindlessness of the last few years and his expulsion will overshadow the good sermons and writings that he did give to us in the past.

P^3 for sure. It feels like someone has died !

    Kyrie Elesion.
