Sarajevo cardinal meets with EU leader to discuss anti-Catholicism in Bosnia

Cardinal Vinko Puljic met with European Council President Herman Van Rompuy to discuss discrimination against Catholics in Bosnia-Herzegovina, including the failure by local authorities to approve the construction of a church when mosques are regularly constructed.
The European Council is a body whose members include the leaders of EU nations. Van Rompuy is a former prime minister of Belgium.
As he sought assistance from the EU, Cardinal Puljic told Van Rompuy that Europe failed to come to the help of Bosnians when they were attacked by the Ottoman Turks centuries ago.
The “only way out of the crisis is a European perspective,” said Van Rompuy. “One way or the other the future of Bosnia-Herzegovina lies in Europe, namely in its integration in the EU.”
