Archbishop Lori decries ‘aggressive and godless secularism,’ fears effects of same-sex marriage on Catholic schools

CWN – October 03, 2012

In an interview with the National Catholic Register, Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore discussed the challenges the Church faces from the HHS mandate and efforts to change the definition of marriage.

“We do find ourselves in a new situation,” he said. “An aggressive and godless secularism has overtaken our culture. It has always been a secular culture, but it is newly aggressive, and that presents multiple challenges.”

Speaking about same-sex marriage, he added that the “accreditation of schools and universities that maintain their support of traditional marriage” could be threatened.

“While the HHS mandate has been front and center, I’m even more concerned about the possibility that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) will be overturned,” he said. “It is not unthinkable that defending traditional marriage will be regarded as bigotry and hate speech and that all kinds of strictures will be placed on our schools.”

Add one to the list of bishops that may be blessed with a slowly growing realization that the enemy is deadly serious about this war.

And they won’t be taking prisoners.

And the first heads on the block when we get to the final destination we’re being driven to will be the good princes of the Church.
