Italian Catholic weekly raps Communion and Liberation for courting politicians

CWN – August 21, 2012

A popular Italian Catholic journal has engaged in open criticism of the Communion and Liberation movement’s annual conference in Rimini, charging that the organization is currying favor with powerful politicians, regardless of their public stands.

The weekly Famiglia Cristiana observed that the Rimini meetings invariably attract powerful public figures, who are warmly greeted. This year, for example, Prime Minister Mario Monti received hearty applause at the event.

“Little does it matter if the nation is on the brink of a precipice,” said Famiglia Cristiana in its critical editorial; “it would appear the point is to keep on dancing, but only because the powerful figure is there, paying homage to the people of Communion and Liberation.”
