Scottish archbishop-elect faces criticism for comment on homosexuality
CWN – July 25, 2012
Archbishop Philip Tartaglia, named this week to be the new Archbishop of Glasgow, has come under heavy fire because of offhand remarks he made earlier this year about the sudden death of a homosexual politician.
David Cairns, a former Catholic priest who was later a government cabinet minister, died unexpectedly last year at the age of 44. During a public appearance in April, in response to a question, Bishop Tartaglia questioned whether the sudden breakdown in Cairns’ health might have been related to his lifestyle.
