SSPX Press Communiqué of July 11, 2012

The General Chapter of the Society of St. Pius X opened Monday, July 9, 2012, at the seminary of Econe (Switzerland), and will continue until Saturday, July 14. The object of this meeting is to examine issues that arise between the elective chapters that take place every 12 years – the next will be held in July 2018.

In the present context, following the response of Cardinal William Levada, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, on June 14, 2012, this chapter will permit the Superior General, Bishop Bernard Fellay, to make known the state of relations of the Society of St. Pius X with Rome, and obtain feedback from the capitularies on this subject. Discussions are being conducted in a fraternal atmosphere, marked by cordiality.

  1. If I remember correctly, Pope Benedict totally bypassed, and actually shocked, Cardinal Kasper, who was then President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, when the Pope opened his arms to dissatisfied Anglicans.

Why the Pope has now distanced himself from the SSPX negotiations and subjected them (the SSPX) to the current heretics running the CDF and Ecclesia Dei is beyond me. Well, on second thought, it could be brought on by pressure from the Catholics’ “elder brothers” as they have been fondly referred to by Pope JP II. Our elder brothers don’t give a hoot about whether Anglican’s remain anglicans or become Novus Ordo catholics; but our elder brothers sure do give a hoot about the SSPX and whether they are considered “catholic”.

  2. Excellent insight.
