What did Bp Williamson say?

What did Bp Williamson say?
An appeal to a man with an unreleased tape
01 July 2012

In recent weeks Stephen Heiner – blogger, filmmaker, sedevacantist self-publicist – made a claim which went largely unnoticed, but which could be of considerable importance to the ongoing situation in the Society of St Pius X. Here I am going to lay out the facts of the matter, before making an appeal to Mr Heiner.

On May 21 2012 Heiner wrote:

In 2009 when I did my first of three London interviews with Bishop Williamson (I have kept the third unpublished to this day), I had “come out” as a sedevacantist to him, in the same manner in which some SSPX priests had done, i.e. they were “privately” sedevacantist…they did not discuss the matter from the pulpit.

While some might focus on the fact of SSPX priests being secretly sedevacantist (something which has plagued the Society in the past, and which Abp Lefebvre was clear in opposing), the more interesting part of Heiner’s comment is his admission that he has a third interview with Bp Williamson from 2009 which was never published.

Why is that?

One of Heiner’s readers asked him as much. Here is the exchange:

Mysterious, no? What could have been said in the Third Interview with +Williamson that warrants its being treated like the Third Secret of Fatima?

There is no point speculating, though the context of Heiner’s reference – a mention of SSPX priests who privately entertain the sedevacantist position – will make it hard for some to refrain from jumping to (probably incorrect) conclusions. But surely both Bp Williamson’s fans and his detractors can agree on one thing: whatever His Lordship said, the world would benefit from knowing. Is it commentary on the Church or on the world, on the Superior General or the Holy Father? No-one can say, absent the tape.

Much of the Society’s present malaise is a result of anonymous acts and secret rebellions, bad works done under cover of darkness. Stephen Heiner finds himself in the unusual position of being able to cast a little light. Here’s hoping he does so.

  1. I know Serv is not a fan of SH or his works, so hope he’ll indulge this mention.

  2. Stephen is actually a personal friend. We’ve spoken at length on many occasions, and have actually had to work together on background stuff regarding mutual friends etc. We were Facebook friends too.

Stephen is a great guy, mostly intelligent – for a former Marine anyway. It’s only when he starts putting his thoughts on paper that my brain begins to hurt.

It’s nothing personal, but unless I want my brain to hurt, I have to make the stuff he writes somehow go away.

Your link says nothing about Abp. Lefebvre opposing private, non-dogmatic sedevacantism. Do you have any such evidence?

You posses all the subtlety of a sledge hammer.

Are you now belatedly coming around to opposing the abuse of secrecy within the Society? Perhaps you will support the release of the Preambles and records of the doctrinal discussions.

  4. “the world would benefit from knowing”…

Oh puhleeease!… your statement is really weird and I’m not sure why you would bother to post such a non-topic in the first place.

    • Because I want to know what Bp Williamson said to Stephen Heiner, in an interview which was presumably intended by His Lordship for public consumption. Heiner is withholding it. If that doesn’t make you curious, I guess that’s your call, but I don’t think it’s that weird if others are.
