The SSPX is not a democratic association. The Bishops have no ‘voting’ power so it doesn’t matter if Fr. Schmidberger was still the superior and all four Bishops opposed his relations with Rome. I think that takes care of a few of your points. But really, Rome wants to unilaterally acknowledge that the SSPX is within the Church by granting jurisdiction and some in the SSPX go running off in a fright! Sounds like a dangerously schismatic mindset if you ask me…
