USCCB: dialogues with Sikhs, Muslims

CWN – June 04, 2012

Staff members of the Secretariat of Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops have taken part in recent dialogues with Sikhs and Muslims.

Participants in the 13th annual West Coast Muslim-Catholic Dialogue discussed Hud (mentioned in the Qur’an) and the Old Testament prophet Habakkuk; participants also discussed the believer in Islam and Catholicism.

Participants in the Sikh-Catholic Consultation discussed four kinds of dialogue outlined in 1991 Vatican document: theological exchange, life, religious experience, and action.

  1. Tom says:

“Sikh transit gloria Muslim”: A gibberish version of “Sic transit gloria mundi (Thus passes the glory of the world)”: What a slave or the equivalent of an orderly would say to a Roman general in his chariot during a triumphal military march in Rome to remind the general of the transitory nature of life and earthly honors; also said by the papal master of ceremonies to a newly-elected Pope during the procession in the sedia gestatoria at the papal coronation in St. Peter’s Basilica; last done during the installation of Pope Paul VI in 1963.

  2. St. Elmo says:

Really? I thought they whispered, “requiro gloria mundi” to the V2 Popes.
